Role Summary
As one of Italy’s leading independent women’s football clubs, we are looking for a Commercial Director to lead the club’s commercial engine through its next phase of growth.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Commercial Director will be responsible for owning and executing FC Como Women’s revenue-generation strategy, as we continue working to transform the club into a league-defining commercial brand while building scalable, professional commercial operations.
This role is ideal for someone with a start‑up mindset who loves the idea of creating something from a blank sheet of paper and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves. It would suit someone resourceful and commercially astute, with a strong track record in revenue growth, brand building, and partnerships. You’ll thrive in fast‑moving, resource‑constrained environments and hold a deep belief in the commercial potential of women’s football.
Before we get excited...
Before getting into the specifics of the role, there are a few non-negotiable requirements we want to be transparent about. We run open and inclusive hiring processes, but the requirements below are ones we do not have flexibility on.
If you don’t meet them, don’t despair! There will be future opportunities at Como Women and across Mercury13’s portfolio of clubs.
Our non-negotiables
You must be fluent in Italian and professionally proficient in English
You must be based in Italy and willing to work and/or travel frequently to Cislago (HQ)
You must be willing to work a non-traditional schedule: football does not operate on a 9–5 timetable
You must have conviction in the commercial viability of women’s football: this role is about growing the game, not maintaining the status quo
Key responsibilities (aka, your mission)
Owning the club's commercial revenue engine
You will be accountable for building and executing a comprehensive revenue-growth strategy across:
Commercial partnerships and sponsorships
Ticketing, hospitality, and fan monetization
Merchandising and licensing
Innovative media and content-driven revenue opportunities
You will work closely with Mercury13’s CRO on international and portfolio-wide partnerships, but at club level you are expected to own execution and outcomes.
Leading commercial partnerships
Identify, pitch, negotiate, and close new commercial partners
Manage multi-year agreements, renewals, and partner activations
Ensure partners receive best-in-class activation and value delivery
Align local execution with Mercury13’s broader commercial strategy, tools, and infrastructure
Driving brand, audience, and fan growth
Lead the club’s marketing, brand, and audience-growth strategy
Develop integrated campaigns to grow visibility, relevance, and community engagement
Oversee digital, social media, and content strategy to maximize reach and support revenue objectives
Build a modern, distinctive brand presence aligned with Mercury13’s vision
Building and leading a high-performing commercial team
Establish clear revenue targets and performance KPIs aligned with the Group CRO
Build, lead, and develop a lean, high-performance commercial and marketing team
Set professional standards, accountability, and execution discipline across all commercial functions
Your skills & traits (aka, about you)
Commercial leadership experience — proven success in senior revenue-generating roles within professional sports, media, entertainment or adjacent industries (football experience is a plus, not a requirement)
Partnership expertise — strong background in sponsorship sales, deal structuring, and relationship management
Strategic but hands-on — able to set direction and also execute at pace
Excellent communicator and negotiator — comfortable with senior stakeholders, partners, and internal leadership
Resilient and results-driven — thrives in fast-moving, evolving environments
Innovative mindset — able to think beyond traditional football assets and revenue models
International outlook — bonus for experience in international sports or media markets (particularly UK / US)
Some final thoughts before you apply…
We are building something ambitious. The goal is not incremental improvement, but to help define what a modern, commercially successful women’s football club looks like.
That means:
If you are risk-averse or looking for rigid structure, this may not be the ideal role for you
This is a build, not inherit opportunity
Structure will evolve — comfort with ambiguity is essential
If you are excited by ownership, accountability, and the opportunity to help shape the future of women’s football at club and industry level, we think this role will be highly rewarding.
