Overall purpose of the Job
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust (BRCT) is the award-winning
independent charitable arm of founding member of the EFL and
the Premier League - Blackburn Rovers FC.
Using the brand of Blackburn Rovers FC and the power of football
and sport for positive social change, we are seeking to appoint a
Targeted Youth Mentor. You will play a vital role in supporting
young people under the age of 18 who need targeted intervention
to work towards reaching their full potential. This position involves
delivering informal education, PHSE, physical activity sessions,
workshops, and focused one-on-one interventions. Providing
guidance to young people facing specific challenges including
emotional health and wellbeing, physical, social and academic
difficulties. The role involves building trusting relationships with
young people, facilitating personal development and promoting
positive life choices.
The Youth Mentor will collaborate closely with local secondary
schools and the local authority to enhance engagement and
outcomes for youth in Blackburn with Darwen and surrounding
areas, as needed. All staff members are expected to support other
Trust areas when and where possible.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is not a comprehensive list of all the tasks which may be required of
the post holder. It is illustrative of the general nature and level of
responsibility of the work to be undertaken:
• Work alongside partners such as local secondary schools,
Young People’s Services, Children’s Services, Police and
Neighbourhood Teams, CAMHS, Local Authorities and others
to identify and work with young people involved in, or at risk of
involvement in risk taking behaviour, school exclusion,
criminalisation or not accessing mainstream education.
• Build trusted relationships with young people to promote
personal development, wellbeing gains and reduce their
experience of offending and antisocial behaviour.
• Maintain/strengthen existing or new professional relationships
with stakeholders, developing strong referral pathways.
• Supporting young people engagement through active learning,
through classroom group sessions, 1:1 mentoring, social action
projects, sporting activities and larger-scale events.
• Ensure all necessary participants data is secured and
recorded in line with the metrics framework in a timely
manner and uploaded onto CRM system.
• Design risk assessments in line with participant
information provided via individuals referral forms.
• Mentoring and supporting individuals in both group and
1:1 settings, encouraging social inclusion and the
dissolving of barriers. Providing wrap around support,
including signposting to other agencies/services where
required.
• Create, plan and deliver a range of workshops and
activities to engage young people and support a positive
change in behaviour. For example, conflict resolution, life
skills, anti-racism, carers and aspirations, money
management etc
• Share best practice/developments with stakeholders
when required to shape and benefit programme delivery.
• Ensuring that all contact with and arrangements for young
people and their welfare is safeguarded to the highest
standard in-line with Trust policies and procedures.
• Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of the project
and compile evidence on the progress of individuals to
report back to key funders.
• Provide progress reports where relevant (e.g. internally to
senior management and/or Board and externally to
funders).
• Support the delivery of other projects and work with the
Trust’s Management Team to identify other opportunities
and projects where duties may overlap.
• Undertaking any relevant training as required by linemanager or in-line with expectations of the programme
funders.
• Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, in service
delivery and employment.
• Promoting positive behaviour and discipline among
students and always safeguard their health and safety.
• Be a flexible member of the Blackburn Rovers Community
Trust team and when requested, assist in the delivery of
other projects and activities including evenings and
weekends.
General
To always be approachable and represent Blackburn Rovers
Community Trust in a professional manner regarding dress,
presentation, personal hygiene, attitude, conduct and
professionalism.
To be able to work flexible and unsociable hours where the role of
the job requires including some evenings, weekends and overnight
stays.
