Sheffield United are seeking a dedicated Academy Tutor to support the delivery of the BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Sporting Excellence and Performance programme. This role plays an important part in supporting the academic progress of Academy scholars, ensuring high standards of teaching, assessment, and learner support throughout the programme.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the planning, delivery, and assessment of the qualification, while also acting as a mentor to scholars, providing consistent guidance to support their development and progression. The Academy provides a professional learning environment where staff are supported to develop their practice, and this role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the education provision within an elite football setting.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Primarily prepare, teach, and assess BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Sporting Excellence and Performance classes ensuring scholars are achieving target grades.
  • Ensure that all Academy players adhere to the academy values and behaviours and display a high level of respect and discipline.
  • Ensure scholars work is marked to a timely and accurate fashion to ensure potential is met.
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • To assist scholars in setting individual short, medium, and long term goals to create Individual Action Plans for all players
  • Complete reports for 12-week reviews for scholars and parents/guardians reporting on academic progress, internally and on external tracking platforms provided by Premier League Education.
  • Attend internal staff or external stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Liaise with Functional English and Maths tutor and keep register of attendances.
  • Operational support for other departments within the Academy as required such as Safeguarding, Player Care, SEP and Player Welfare.
  • Support the Hybrid training model for players in the Under 12 - Under 16 age groups.
  • Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.

  • To carry out/take part in training requests as directed by the Club.


Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • Relevant teaching degree qualification and experience to teach BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Sporting Excellence and Performance.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Completion of FA Safeguarding Children Workshop.
  • Experience of student development with 16 - 19-year-olds.
  • Experience of working within an education setting
  • Experience and understanding of apprenticeships.
  • Successful completion of Enhanced DBS Check upon offer acceptance.


Desirable Criteria for the Role:

  • Experience working within a sports academy.
  • Experience with students aged 9-16.
  • Degree or qualification in sport.

To begin approximately in the week commencing Monday 16th February.
