Casual Academy Physiotherapists/Sports Therapists/Sports Rehabilitators

Job Description

Key responsibilities
1. Support the Head of Academy Medical Services to deliver the medical care for Academy
players in the Under 9 to Under 18 age groups, including pitch side cover and all off-the-field
treatment and rehabilitation.
1.1 Treat, and rehabilitate any injuries/conditions Academy players may present.
1.2 Provide access to appropriate physiotherapy support for all Academy players.
1.3 Ensure appropriate physiotherapy support, including the provision of well
stocked medical bags, is available for all Academy activities.
1.4 Maintain accurate and up to date medical records for all registered Academy
players, producing an ongoing injury audit report at the end of each month.
1.5 Provide pitch side first aid for matches and training as agreed with the Head of
Academy Medical Services.

2. Liaise with players, parents and staff in order to provide appropriate feedback on
treatment of injuries.
2.1 Ensure that parents of all players under the age of 18 have been given clear
guidelines as to the extent of the players’ injury and rehabilitation plan.
2.2 Ensure that relevant coaches and fitness staff are aware of any player who is not
fit to train, on modified training or any other type of return to training, within good
time for the planning of training.
2.3 To keep all staff updated as to the potential return date for any player who is
injured and not fit to train.

2.4 Produce regular reports regarding the progress of each player within the
Academy and to ensure that the appropriate medical information is added to each
player’s Performance Clock.

3. Provide medical examinations to Academy players where necessary upon entry into the
programme ensuring full liaison with Head of Academy Medical Services on such matters.

4. To contribute to the multi-disciplinary approach to planning, delivery and evaluation
within the Academy.
4.1 Support the planning of training where necessary and give support from a
medical perspective.
4.2 Support the player review process by giving any relevant medical information in
relation to the Academy players under your care.
4.3 Contribute to the EMS for Apprentice players as a part of their review process.

5. Support with the planning and delivery of three annual physical testing assessments for
players in the Under 9 to Under 21 age groups.

6. Support with the planning and delivery of monthly maturation screening for players in the
Under 9 to Under 21 age groups.

7. Contribute to and take part in Medical CPD within the Club and outside where necessary.


Knowledge and Experience
1. BSc or higher in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy or sports rehabilitation with current HCPC,
CSP and/or BASRAT/SST membership.
2. FA Level 4 Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football Qualification (ITMMiF)
essential.
3. Experience of working as a therapist in a professional football club and in working as part
of interdisciplinary sports science and medicine team.
4. Extensive manual therapy skills, sports rehabilitation/knowledge in injury prevention
methods and recovery strategies and knowledge of movement dysfunction analysis and
experience in performance stability screening.
5. Extensive knowledge in injury prevention methods and recovery strategies.
6. Experience in managing and co-ordinating medical staff and patient list.
7. Full, Clean UK Driving Licence.
8. Experience using the PMA system.
9. Experience working under and a knowledge of EPPP guidelines.
