Sheffield United Football Club are seeking multiple reliable and experienced Matchday Steward Supervisors to support the safe and effective delivery of matchday operations at Bramall Lane. This role plays a key part in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-managed environment for all supporters, staff, and visitors.

The successful candidate will lead and supervise a team of stewards, ensuring all matchday procedures are carried out in line with Club policies and safety regulations. Working closely with the Club Safety Officer, they will oversee steward deployment, manage incidents, and maintain high standards of safety, communication, and customer service throughout each matchday event. Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of stewards to deliver a safe and exceptional customer experience for all stadium users on match day.
  • Attend pre-match supervisor briefings and to carry out the specific match day instructions and approach as outlined by the Club's Safety Officer.
  • Brief own team of stewards according to the instructions received from the Club's Safety Officer and to ensure that that briefing instructions are carried out through the deployment of own team.
  • Oversee pre-match checks of the area for which their team will be responsible and notify the Safety Officer of any faulty safety equipment, damaged seating or suspicious articles.
  • Act as a point of advice and instructions for own team throughout the match including dealing with customer complaints and safety concerns, relaying information back to the Club Safety Officer as necessary.
  • Observe the performance of own team and ensure that standards of health, safety, security and crowd supervision are maintained throughout the match until the Club Safety Officer stands down the stewarding teams.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Club policies and procedures, and be confident in following the corresponding protocol where required.
  • Act as an ambassador for Sheffield United Football Club when interacting with all visitors to the ground and in dealing with customer issues and complaints.
  • Demonstrate the highest standards in leading their team, implementing best practice on safeguarding and inclusion matters.
  • Support the training and coaching of both new and experienced stewards in his/her team, supporting the General Manager in mentoring any new starters throughout their induction period.
  • Support the administration of match day procedures including keeping clear, timed records of any issues encountered in their area during the event. Completing match Day Debriefing Sheets along with stand sheets.
  • Ensure that any employment administration for stewards including holidays, timesheets, job numbers etc is carried out accurately and consistently. Ensuring that all steward team have clocked-in at the start of the assignment of work, and clock-out at the end of the assignment of work.
  • Inform the Club Safety Officer of any incident which affects the safe and effective stewarding of the event.
  • Inform the Club Safety Officer of any incident involving any injury to anyone including spectators or staff members, making a record of the incident which can be compiled as evidence for the post-match investigation.
  • Inform the Club Safety Officer of any incident of a significant nature which could affect the safe running of any event.
  • Inform the Club Safety Officer of any incident of a significant nature involving the potential for crowd disorder.
  • Attend training and staff meetings as required.
  • Any other typical safety steward duties as requested by management.


Club Wide Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Sheffield United Football Club's Safeguarding Policies and Procedures to foster an environment which protects from harm those defined as children and adults at risk.
  • Report any concerns of a Safeguarding nature to the relevant parties and remain fully compliant with any applicable Safeguarding checks and due diligence and recognise your responsibility to the Club's Safeguarding agenda.
  • Report any concerns of discrimination to the relevant parties and promote a welcoming and inclusive club environment for all.
  • Adhere to the Club's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies, supporting the Club to create an environment which is inclusive and all-encompassing.
  • Carry out and actively participate in all training requests as directed by the Club, including mandatory health and safety training, emergency procedures, fire safety, manual handling, safeguarding, and role-specific safety instruction.
  • Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.


Essential Criteria:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Spectator Safety.
  • Prior experience in a stewarding or security role.
  • Prior experience of following set procedures and protocols.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Team Player.
  • Hardworking.
  • Vigilant and Focused.
  • Good Leadership Skills.


Desirable Criteria:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Spectator Safety or working towards it.
  • First Aid Qualified.
  • Prior experience of leading a team and delivering briefing sessions.
