Job Title: Casual Sport and Education Practitioner

Salary: £12.71 p/h

Hours of Work: Casual hours are available throughout the school year. Staff may also have the option to deliver on our holiday provision, to cover other holiday/sickness throughout the year and to work and support Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s matchday activities.

Location: Blackburn Rovers Football Club, Ewood Park, Blackburn, BB2 4JF.

Schools in surrounding Blackburn with Darwen area.

Contractual Status: Casual

Overall purpose of the Job:

To deliver high-quality dance and education lessons/sessions and intervention delivery within the primary school age group of Lancashire. Whilst delivering for Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, you will support individuals to develop their abilities to their potential and enjoy physical activity which will encourage them to sustain activity levels. Practitioners will also promote positive healthy lifestyle choices and deliver educational messages through sport. The postholder will have a responsibility to mentor teachers to help grow confidence and enhance quality of PE in schools, in order to assist schools in sustainably developing this area.

The postholder will deliver against KPI’s from the Premier League Primary Stars programme and the EFL Trust Joy of Moving projects.

The role requires an individual with experience of working in a school/community setting and a good knowledge of the type of young people targeted.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the following:

  • Planning and delivering high quality dance lessons/sessions that cover a range of skills and techniques.
  • Contributing to the excellence of teaching and learning and the quality assurance within the curriculum area.
  • The potential to plan and deliver on school holiday programmes that cover a range of sports and activities.
  • Ensuring quality assurance procedures are followed and implemented for all schools participating.
  • Promoting equal opportunities in service delivery and employment.
  • Acting in accordance with BRCT’s corporate objectives and policies and seeking to promote them.
  • Working alongside local schools and the delivery team to prepare a range of events and competitions.
  • The potential to support weekend delivery of activities, e.g. matchday activities.
  • Overseeing, reporting and resolving any feedback and/or issues with schools to the line manager.
  • Monitoring and reporting on activities using the data management system and providing relevant management information to project coordinators.
  • Contributing to meeting departmental targets and service standards and outcomes.
  • Attending training/CPD to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
  • Linking, where possible, school sessions to local community activities and clubs creating pathways for further development.
  • Working off site in various school and community environments.
  • Maintaining awareness of, and acting in accordance with, the provisions of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Fulfilling other duties as mat be reasonably required from time to time.

Person Specification:

Essential

Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications

  • Recent experience of working in an environment with primary aged pupils.
  • Ability to plan and deliver a variety of consistently high-quality sessions delivering a wide range of different styles, skills and techniques, across the full primary education PE curriculum.
  • Experience working alongside other teaching/support staff.
  • Teaching/coaching experience at a variety of age groups and abilities.
  • Knowledge of how to positively develop young people in a coaching/ classroom setting.
  • Safeguarding best practices and experience of acting on this knowledge to protect young people.
  • Minimum of Level 2 sports OR Minimum of Level 2 gymnastics OR Recognised qualifications in a wide range of dance styles such as street dance, contemporary, creative, etc.
  • A-levels (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of five GCSEs that includes English and Maths of a Grade C or above.
  • A valid UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Involved with sport/arts, through work or pleasure.
  • Leading in a classroom environment.
  • Understanding of the latest primary education policies.
  • Knowledge of National Curriculum at KS1 and KS2.
  • Experience of managing a programme of delivery.
  • L3 Teaching Assistant & L4 Higher Level Teaching Assistant specialising in PE Qualification or equivalent.
  • A degree in a relevant subject.

  • Computer skills including the ability to operate programs such as: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint at a highly proficient level.
