THE POSITION

The Cleaning and Waste Management Manager, reporting to both FIFA27 Head of Infrastructure & Technical Services and the FIFA Technical Services Senior Manager, will be a key member of the FIFA27 team. This role involves close coordination with key stakeholders to meet operational, environmental, and service quality standards.

The position is responsible for developing, coordinating implementation, and overseeing sustainable cleaning and waste management strategies and operations from planning through implementation to closure across all FIFA Official Sites. This includes leading upstream and downstream waste management and ensuring a seamless, high-quality tournament experience in line with FIFA’s and regional sustainability standards.

The ideal candidate will combine event operations, sustainable cleaning, and waste management expertise with strong project management skills. This role will focus on optimizing operational efficiency, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, and minimizing environmental impact while adhering to FIFA’s stringent standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as the primary liaison between FIFA Functional Areas, Local Entities, contractors, and external stakeholders for sustainable cleaning and waste management services. 
  • Lead and manage cleaning and waste management team, ensuring efficiency and high performance. 
  • Develop and implement the Sustainable Waste management strategy and cleaning operational plan, ensuring alignment with FIFA’s requirements. 
  • Develop and manage sustainable cleaning and waste management services budget, ensuring cost control and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the planning, installation, and operations of temporary waste management infrastructure across stadiums, training sites, and other FIFA Official Sites.
  • Ensure full integration of cleaning and waste management requirements, maximizing the use of existing venue infrastructure while meeting FIFA standards and event operational needs. 
  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of sustainable cleaning and waste management services, managing resources, partners, suppliers, and contractors to ensure successful execution. 
  • Conduct site visits to validate operational readiness, ensuring feasibility, quality, and compliance with operational needs. 
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of temporary power, lighting, and other essential technical services for Resource Recovery Centers. 
  • Ensure compliance with FIFA’s facility management standards.
  • Collaborate with stadium facility management teams, suppliers, and local authorities to guarantee operational readiness by the highest sustainability standards.
  • Provide regular updates to the FIFA Technical Services Senior Manager on key milestones, issues, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with local authorities the process to secure necessary permits and approvals. 
  • Track and report on project progress, identifying risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation in service planning and delivery.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Resource Management, Economics, Sustainability, Facility Management or a related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience planning and executing sustainable cleaning and waste management services for major sporting events.
  • Proven track record of leading cleaning and waste management service teams in FIFA tournaments or similar global events.
  • Experience in budget management, procurement, and supplier coordination.
  • Strong understanding of stakeholders' requirements and responsibilities to deliver efficient and sustainable operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of cleaning and waste management delivery, temporary infrastructure, and venue technical services for major sporting events.
  • Proficiency in project management tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Right to work in Brazil. 
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Fluent in Portuguese (spoken and written)
  • Ability to re-locate to Rio de Janeiro.
