The Role

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is seeking a Risk & Compliance Officer to join its Legal, Risk and Compliance Team. This is a pivotal role responsible for managing and coordinating the Club’s risk and compliance obligations, ensuring statutory, regulatory and internal governance requirements are met or exceeded.

You will act as a strategic partner to senior leaders, influencing decision-making and embedding a proactive risk and compliance culture across football, commercial and operational functions.

Job Purpose

To take responsibility for the management and coordination of the Club’s risk and compliance obligations, ensuring all statutory and regulatory requirements are met or exceeded, and supporting effective governance, reporting and risk mitigation across the organisation.

The purpose of the role is to

  • Design, implement and continuously evolve an enterprise risk management framework appropriate to the club's scale, ambitions and operating environment
  • Identify, assess and mitigate legal, regulatory, operational and reputational risks.
  • Streamline and improve risk and compliance processes to increase efficiency and consistency, while embedding a risk approach that combines rigour with pragmatism, enabling strong governance and informed decision-making without creating unnecessary barriers.
  • Sustain and embed a proactive risk and compliance culture across the Club, and act as a strategic business partner to Executive Leadership Team and key functions (such as Commercial, Operations, Football, Finance), constructively challenging when proposed actions fall outside the Club’s risk appetite.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, league rules and internal policies.
  • Critically evaluate, approve and support the onboarding of third party suppliers, partners and new technology platforms.
  • Support the design and delivery of compliance training programmes that resonate with diverse audiences across the Club, ensuring clarity, engagement and practical application.
  • Lead the development of the Club’s crisis management and business continuity frameworks, ensuring robust preparedness and effective response to potential disruptions.

Essential Experience

To be considered for the role applicants must be able to demonstrate the following experience:

  • Experience designing, supporting and delivering risk management and compliance frameworks within a complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced and fluid environment, demonstrating initiative, adaptability and sound judgement, and confidence engaging with senior management.
  • Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships across multiple functions to promote a strong risk and compliance culture.
  • Experience supporting data protection and privacy compliance, including responsible data processing and the handling of data incidents or breaches in line with reporting obligations.
  • Experience reviewing risk assessments and ensuring appropriate mitigation of identified risks.
  • Experience supporting third party risk management, including due diligence, supplier assessments and ongoing oversight.
  • Experience contributing to reporting on key risks and mitigation plans to senior management and governance forums.
  • Ability to ensure staff understand their compliance responsibilities, accountability and internal reporting obligations.
  • Experience assisting with regulatory enquiries, audits or examinations.
  • Ability to identify, escalate and support the management of existing and emerging compliance issues across different business areas.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience managing privacy and data governance issues relating to health, biometric or other sensitive personal data.
  • Experience working within sporting, entertainment or similarly high-profile, regulated environments.
  • Experience engaging with regulatory authorities and supporting constructive regulatory relationships.
  • Experience supporting the design and delivery of staff compliance training programmes.
  • Experience acting as a stakeholder on compliance-related projects, including new system implementations, brand protection or sustainability initiatives.
  • Experience supporting the oversight of an organisation’s insurance portfolio and identifying potential gaps in cover.
