CONTRACT: Permanent, Part Time (We will consider candidates looking for 1.5 – 2.5 days per week)
An exciting opportunity to support the medical provision across the First Team and the PGA pathway at Bristol City Women. We are seeking a proactive clinician with strong communication skills and the confidence to make clear decisions in a fast-paced environment, working closely with the Lead Physiotherapist and MDT to deliver high‑quality matchday cover and consistent clinical support within a demanding WSL environment.
What you can expect to get involved in
- Provide pitch-side assessment and treatment of players during training and matches.
- Take a lead role in the assessment and diagnosis of injuries sustained by players.
- Arrange onward referral for appropriate imaging and specialist consultation as appropriate, informing health insurers / funding providers.
- Be available to the club – typically performance support staff – for consultation between Matches.
- Advise and liaise with suppliers and colleagues, including Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists, on medical screening / interventions such as:
– Cardiac screening
– Baseline concussion screening & concussion management in line with FA guidance
– Blood markers
– Vaccinations
– Injury and illness prevention
– Treatment
– Audit
– Emergency pitch side support
- Management of relevant primary care issues in collaboration with the Club Players’ normal GP.
- Medicines management: Prescribe medication for players as appropriate
- Manage ordering, storage, checking, dispensing and disposal of prescription and non-prescription medications.
- Oversee or execute regular checking, maintenance, and replenishment of emergency equipment.
- Ensure all necessary player medical screening requirements mandated by WSL 2 / WSL are carried out in a timely fashion.
- Ensure player records are kept up to date in line with GMC guidance.
- TUEs and anti-doping: support players and the club in required administrative duties for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (“TUEs”) when required.
- Ensure that all FA Anti-doping and player whereabouts requirements are complied with. This includes that all players are kept informed of any adaptations to regulations immediately as they occur.
- Maintain and ensure up to date up to date medical records on all first team players ensuring UK Anti-Doping (“UKAD”) and FA Anti-Doping regulations are always adhered to, and any requirements from these bodies are actioned immediately.
- Multi-disciplinary contribution
- Offer second opinion and professional counsel to Performance Support practitioners.
- Attend case management meetings and provide professional opinion / input.
- Use club software to record data as required, to allow for required analysis, audit & research.
- Develop relationships with coaches and Performance Support Practitioners, and complementary functions (e.g. safeguarding / performance wellbeing lead) to ensure a player-centric culture is in existence.
- Take a role or advise on developing and updating Emergency Action Plans for all training & home competition sites.
- Take a role / advise on regular in-house emergency medical scenario practice (as recommended by ATMIFF).
- Support and contribute to initiatives that promote female athlete health and mental wellbeing.
About you
- Fully registered and licensed to practice by the GMC, and shall comply with the General Medical Council’s requirements concerning annual appraisal, scope of practice, indemnity, and revalidation of doctors.
- Holds appropriate medical indemnity to treat / advise WSL and WSL 2 players.
- Up to date full Advanced Emergency Aid qualification; this should be the Level 5 ATMMIF (or equivalent as listed on ATMMIF website).
- Attend a yearly ATMMiF-R reaccreditation.
- Diploma/ MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine or an equivalent or higher professional qualification, as otherwise approved by The Football Association, or working towards this qualification. o Have completed the UKAD intro-to clean sport course.
- Have completed the FootballHER course.
- Safeguarding Children and Adults courses (acquired before starting role).
- DBS check appropriate to the role (acquired before starting the role).
