Casual Academy Doctor

About the Role

Medical provision

  • Deliver an elite medical service across all Academy phases in line with the Club’s medical strategy.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage injuries and illnesses affecting Academy players, including on the field of play.
  • Provide medical cover for Academy fixtures, match days, and tours, including unsociable hours where required.

 

Multidisciplinary working and communication

  • Work collaboratively with the Performance Support MDT, First Team Medical MDT, Academy Physiotherapy, Coaching Department, and wider Academy staff.
  • Attend pre-game medical team meetings and contribute to trauma-related planning and role clarity.
  • Share relevant medical updates with appropriate Club staff, including injury status, rehabilitation plans, return-to-train/play dates, and injury audit information, while maintaining medical confidentiality

 

Governance and administration

  • Maintain comprehensive player medical records on Kitman Labs, including medical notes, screening results, current status, and individual physical targets.
  • Follow clinical governance processes in all player healthcare matters, in line with accepted UK professional practice standards.
  • Support anti-doping and whereabouts requirements for relevant teams.

 

 

Professional standards and compliance

 

  • Manage data securely in line with GDPR and Club data protection procedures.
  • Engage in the Club competency framework, appraisal process and relevant continuing professional development.
  • Comply with Staff Handbook policies, particularly safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, data protection, health and safety, and safer working practices.
  • Undertake any additional duties commensurate with the role, as requested by the Academy Lead Doctors, Head of Academy Performance Support and the Head of Academy Physiotherapy

 

 

About the person

Essential:

  • GMC Registered
  • FA Advanced Trauma and Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF) qualified
  • Experience in general practice and/or sports medicine, ideally with paediatric MSK exposure
  • Calm, professional, and composed under pressure
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and unsociable hours
  • Committed to ongoing CPD and professional growth
  • Excellent time management, reliability, and professionalism

Desirable Criteria:

  • PGDip or MSc in Sports Medicine
  • Previous experience working in a professional football academy or similar elite sporting environment
  • Experience with Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) protocols and Kitman Labs
  • FA Child Welfare and FA Safeguarding qualifications
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Previous involvement in an academy audit process
