Academy Doctor

Stoke City Football Club of the English Football League are looking for an Academy Doctor. The role will be based at our Category One status Academy at the Clayton Wood Training Ground.

As the Academy Doctor, you will deliver high quality medical care to all players at Stoke City Academy, promoting and protecting the health and wellbeing of our young athletes.

You will be responsible for providing pitch side medical cover, conducting routine examinations and managing the cardiac screening programme.

This is a vital role in ensuring our players receive the best possible medical support to aid their development and performance.

The ideal candidate will be available to work evenings and weekends to cover match day fixtures and other ad hoc events at the bet365 Stadium.

The position will be offered on a part time basis. All relevant training will be provided.

Main Responsibilities

• Delivering high quality medical care to all Academy players, including pitch side cover for Professional Development Phase home matches.
• Conducting routine medical examinations, annual health reviews and cardiac screening programmes for Academy players.
• Arranging specialist referrals, medical investigations and submitting Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) applications.
• Maintaining accurate, comprehensive and up to date medical records for all players.
• Liaising with the Academy Medical Lead and Head of Medicine regarding the management of injury and illness.
• Reviewing and updating medical emergency action plans for training venues and individuals.
• Checking and maintaining medical equipment, including emergency bags, defibrillators and medical gases, in accordance with EPPP rules.
• Managing and ordering medical stock and medicines under the guidance of the Head of Medical.
• Assisting with player education to promote health, wellbeing and medical responsibilities, and supporting first team medical provision when required.
• Ensuring compliance with Club policies, including health and safety, safeguarding and betting integrity rules.

Key Skills and Experience

• Current GMC registration and licence to practice.
• Valid ATMMiF emergency care accreditation.
• MFSEM Membership (or equivalent).
• Experience in providing medical care within a sporting environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and support players on health and wellbeing.
• Strong understanding of medical ethics, confidentiality and data protection.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
• Strong organisational and record keeping skills.
• Proactive approach to problem solving and emergency management.
