Assistant Manager (Volunteer)

Job Description

Lightwater United FC are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Assistant Manager to support the First Team Manager in developing and managing the squad at Step 8 level. The successful candidate will play a key role in coaching sessions, match preparation, player recruitment, and helping to build a competitive squad capable of performing at this level.

This role would suit someone with experience in non-league football, either through coaching or management, who is passionate about player development and contributing to the growth of a competitive local football club.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the First Team Manager in planning and delivering training sessions and matchday preparation.

  • Support with tactical planning, team selection, and in-game management.

  • Help identify, recruit, and retain players capable of performing at Step 8 standard.

  • Use local football knowledge and contacts to bring new players into the squad.

  • Provide feedback and guidance to players to support their development and performance.

  • Attend all training sessions, matches, and club meetings as required.

  • Assist with opposition analysis and match preparation.

  • Support the positive culture and professionalism of the club both on and off the pitch.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience in non-league football, either as a coach, manager, or player.

  • Be working towards or have begun FA coaching qualifications (Level 1 / UEFA C or above preferred).

  • Have a good understanding of the Step 7–9 non-league football landscape.

  • Be able to identify and attract players capable of competing at Step 8 level.

  • Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.

  • Be reliable, committed, and passionate about grassroots football.

Desirable

  • Existing network of local players or experience recruiting within non-league football.

  • Previous experience assisting or managing a senior football team.

  • Ability to assist with training session planning and delivery.

Commitment

  • Weekly training sessions (Thursday Evenings)

  • Saturday matchdays.

  • Additional time for recruitment and planning as required.
