ABOUT THE ROLE

Football Australia maintains a comprehensive suite of digital solutions serving both internal operations and the Australian football community, combining in-house developed applications with enterprise vendor platforms.

The DevOps Engineer works closely with the Lead Architect to deliver Football Australia’s digital transformation — building and maintaining the secure, automated platform foundation that enables engineering teams to focus on delivering value.

Operating within a cloud environment, the role spans infrastructure management, security hardening, CI/CD pipeline development, and full-stack engineering. A core focus is tightening platform security and architecture, embedding best practices throughout the infrastructure lifecycle to ensure systems remain resilient, scalable, and compliant.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, continuously improving performance, reliability, and developer experience
  • Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code, ensuring scalability, availability, and cost efficiency
  • Embed security best practices throughout the infrastructure lifecycle, supporting platform hardening and compliance
  • Design and maintain data pipelines and platform components, ensuring reliable data flow, performance, and governance
  • Work closely with the Lead Architect to implement platform architecture decisions and contribute to technical design discussions
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions, proactively identifying and resolving infrastructure issues
  • Contribute hands-on development capacity, building and developing solutions alongside the engineering team when required
  • Document solutions, infrastructure designs, and operational processes to support knowledge sharing and team continuity

ROLE OUTCOMES

  • Platform security uplift — Close identified security gaps, harden infrastructure, and progress towards compliance with relevant standards across the platform
  • Architecture modernisation — Work with the Lead Architect to evolve and document a more scalable, resilient platform architecture
  • CI/CD maturity — Move from partial to full pipeline automation, increasing deployment frequency and reducing manual intervention
  • Development tooling uplift — Improve and standardise tooling across the engineering team, reducing friction and accelerating delivery
  • Hands-on development contribution — Actively contribute to building and developing solutions alongside the engineering team, providing development capacity when and where it’s needed
  • Observability & incident response — Establish robust monitoring, alerting, and logging practices that reduce mean time to detect and resolve issues
  • System reliability — Improve platform uptime and resilience through proactive infrastructure management and automated recovery
  • Data platform maturity — Establish well-governed, performant data pipelines that support reliable data flow across Football Australia’s systems
  • Developer productivity & onboarding — Reduce time-to-productivity for new engineers through better tooling, documentation, and automated environments
  • Cost optimisation — Identify and act on opportunities to reduce cloud infrastructure spend without compromising performance or reliability

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL

  • Minimum 3–4 years of industry experience in a DevOps, platform, or cloud infrastructure role
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • Hands-on AWS experience across infrastructure design, deployment, and management
  • Strong practical knowledge of system and application security, including secure design principles and vulnerability management
  • Solid understanding of ISO 27001 or equivalent security standards and their practical application
  • Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, including design and optimisation
  • Exposure to data engineering concepts and pipeline development
  • Solid CI/CD experience, including pipeline design and automated deployment practices
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform for provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure
  • An inquisitive mindset with a genuine appetite for continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies and practices

DESIRABLE

  • Proficiency in one or more of TypeScript, Golang, Python, or PHP
  • Familiarity with Bash scripting for automation and operational tasks
  • Experience with Amazon Redshift, including its use as a data lake platform
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding and code review practices
  • Understanding of PII handling and data protection principles, including privacy-by-design practices
  • Exposure to Australian industry and regulatory standards relevant to data, security, and compliance
  • Experience contributing to digital transformation initiatives within a complex or multi-platform environment
  • AWS certification, such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, or AWS Security Specialty

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Working with children check (paid/employee) or state-based equivalent
  • International Criminal History Record for each country (other than Australia) in which you have resided for 12 months or more in the last 10 years (if applicable)
  • Out of hours and weekend work as required

Application deadline: 20th March 2026
