Summary
An integrated member of the Real Salt Lake Health and Performance team, the Athletic Trainer will provide daily, on-site, evidence based therapy and athletic training services to the athletes of RSL. Utilizing a collaborative approach, alongside a multi-disciplined staff, provide therapy at the state of the art, RSL Zion’s Bank Training Center in Herriman, UT.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide therapy and Athletic Training services utilizing evidence-based methods for long-term rehabilitations (non-surgical) and post-surgical athletes.
- Provide high level, individually based rehab programs for athletes.
- Provide/collaborate/participate on return to training (RTT) and return to play (RTP) programs in conjunction with Health and Performance team.
- Provide and collaborate/participate in injury prevention programs with Health and Performance team.
- Serve as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with RSL attending all home games (some travel is required)
- Assist the medical team with daily treatments/practice duties as available.
- Assist the Health and Performance team in assessments/profiling/routine objective measurements designed to maximize player performance.
- Manage medical record keeping of all athletes treated, including regular communication with Athletic Trainers with each respective team. Utilization of electronic medical records.
- Assist the Head Athletic trainer with all league requirements and mandates as stated in the MLS medical manual.
- Participate in staff in-service seminars to educate other staff members in area of expertise.
- Maintain continuing education requirements in Athletic Training certification boards.
- Attend league medical meetings as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Athletic Training (or related field leading to certification) from an accredited university
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
- Eligible for Utah State licensure in Athletic Training
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an elite or high-performance sports environment
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary performance team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with players, coaches, and staff
- Ability to maintain professionalism, composure, and sound clinical judgment in high-pressure environments
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential medical information
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced team setting
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of team travel schedule
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a professional team sport environment; soccer experience strongly preferred
- Three (3) or more years of MLS or comparable top-tier professional league experience
- Demonstrated experience utilizing advanced rehabilitation technologies and performance monitoring systems
- Growth mindset with commitment to continuing education and staying current with evolving best practices in sports medicine
- Strong collaborative leadership style with the ability to positively influence and support athletes during rehabilitation and return-to-play processes
- Calm, solution-oriented approach with strong emotional intelligence when managing injured athletes
- Experience contributing to integrated return-to-play models within a high-performance framework
Physical Demands & Environment
The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 100 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, typing, etc.
