Job Description

Passionate about creating compelling content for some of football's most iconic competitions? Join The FA as our Competitions Content Manager and help shape the story of the Emirates FA Cup and Adobe Women's FA Cup.

This role is a permanent position within our Marketing, Communications and Corporate Affairs Team, and will require a flexible approach to working hours and locations.

 

What will you be doing?

  • Lead the day-to-day management of The FA's competition social media agency, taking ownership of weekly status calls and creative ideation sessions to optimise both short- and long-term content distribution and publishing strategies.
  • Ideate and deliver live, social-first content across key events, match weekends, player appearances, and cup shoots, ensuring every moment resonates with fans.
  • Champion social media innovation by embedding platform best practices and emerging trends into both planned and reactive campaigns throughout the season.
  • Create and oversee editorial content plans, collaborating closely with stakeholders across The FA's brand, communications, and commercial teams to ensure alignment and impact.
  • Proactively analyse channel and content performance,  sharing key insights and learnings to help shape future creative decisions and challenge ways of working.
  • Collaborate with The FA's creative content, content strategy, and operations teams to deliver best-in-class competition output that drives reach, engagement, and positive sentiment.
  • Partner with The FA's competition social media agency to provide overall channel management of all social media platforms.
  • Support the Senior Content Manager on annual budget planning, raising purchase orders and tracking spend/content performance across the season.
  • Play an influential role in cross-functional working groups, providing creative, content, and social expertise to support wider business objectives—particularly those focused on the commercial growth of competitions.
  • Support The FA's broadcast team with the delivery of value-adding propositions for domestic and international rightsholders.
  • Opportunity to support the wider content team department, outside of competition season, on FA-wide campaigns (e.g. England senior major tournaments).
  • Execute additional tasks as required to meet the FA's changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure that the highest standards of health, safety, and well-being can be maintained.

 

What are we looking for?

 

Essential for the role:

  • Strong evidence of creating engaging, entertaining and best-in-class social content.
  • Previous experience working with and managing social producers/social media agencies.
  • Clear understanding of the social landscape, including emerging trends and how to identify future opportunities.
  • Experience working with high-profile talent to influence and capture best-in-class social content.
  • Experience and knowledge of young & diverse audiences/youth culture and how they behave on, and consume, social media.
  • Previous experience in a professional sports creative environment.
  • Strong knowledge of social analytics, how to best measure performance, how to construct reports and use data to inform future content plans.
  • Ability to produce and optimise short and long-term content plans.
  • Experience creating social media video content for Reels and TikTok.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-functional team to achieve mutual aims and organisational objectives.
  • Seamless communication skills across online messaging tools and in person that align with the pace of live events.
  • Confident with being hands-on across projects.
  • A strong and natural storyteller with sound editorial judgement.
  • Thorough knowledge and passion for football.
  • Ability to manage large social communities and comfortable responding to an ever-changing landscape.

 

Beneficial to have:

  • Experience of working for a brand, media publisher or agency.
  • Experience of working in and a demonstrated interest in fashion, music, entertainment.
  • Experience of paid social media advertising.
  • Confidence and ability to manage upwards.
  • Proficient user of image-editing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Azzuu).
  • Proficient user of video-editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere).
  • Experience of cloud-based video-clipping software (e.g. Grabyo).
  • Experience working with web-based work management platforms (e.g. Asana, Trello).

Currently, we are working within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work from your contractual location for part of the week, and as and when required by the team. The remaining days can be worked remotely. We will continue to monitor this model, and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
