Job Purpose

  • Match day Cover for Home U21 games in line with the requirements of Elite Player Performance Plan
  • Assess treat medical illnesses with the U21 Squad
  • Assess Musculoskeletal injuries in conjunction with wider Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide medical support in conjunction with U21 Performance Physiotherapist
  • Provide input into the Rehabilitation MDT
  • Regular review of all injured/ill players across all Academy squads if required
  • Cover training for the Professional Development Phase (PDP) squads when required
  • Co-ordinate specialist appointments for U21 Squad players
  • Attend player appointments with external specialists as and when required
  • Perform player screenings and new signing medicals
  • In conjunction with the U18 Academy Doctor, co-ordinate all cardiac screening tests and results as required for all new and existing players in accordance with FA and THFC screening program.
  • Ensure that players are up to date with all cardiac screening and withdrawn from training and matches if there is known reason to do so
  • Ensure all players are up to date with vaccinations and immunisations
  • To participate in an on-call rota outside of clinic times in conjunction with the other Squad Doctors and to be available to players outside of normal working hours should this be needed.
  • To cover first team training should the need arise
  • Responsible for medication control
  • Club clinical governance member
  • Co-ordinate and deliver Emergency Medical Continuous Professional Development training for all medical staff in conjunction with the U18 Academy Doctor
  • Liaise with Paramedic providers to cover games and training when required
  • Cover all U21 Home and away games
  • In conjunction with the U18 Academy Doctor provide cover when required for PDP international tournaments Home and Away
  • Check and maintain Emergency medical kit for training and matches
  • Check and maintain Automatic External Defibrillators and other training ground Emergency equipment
  • Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Actions Plans (EAP) as required

  • Be alert to signs of abuse, neglect, or safeguarding concerns and report these appropriately
  • Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model when working with or around children
  • Attend safeguarding training as required and keep knowledge up to date

Person Specification

Specific Experience

  • GMC registered with entry on to the specialist or general practice register
  • Experience in Elite sport
  • Post Graduate qualification in Sports and Exercise Medicine
  • FA ATMIFF

Abilities, Skills & Knowledge

  • MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine
  • Entry on to the FSEM Specialist Register
  • Ultrasound Post-Graduate qualification
  • Previous research publications
  • Keep up to date with current guidelines on concussion management and in conjunction with the U18 Academy Doctor take a lead of concussion screening for all appropriate age groups
  • Understanding of and compliance with the FA and UEFA anti-doping regulations and attendance with players during anti-doping tests – to supply correct knowledge and ensure correct procedure. This includes education of players surrounding their responsibilities
