Wigan Athletic Community Trust is recruiting for a Football and Education Tutor to join its Post 16 team and help deliver its BTEC provision.
Salary: £26,000 - £28,000
Length of contract: Full time – Fixed Term till 31st August 2027
Wigan Athletic Community Trust is seeking a passionate and dedicated Football and Education Tutor to join its ambitious Post 16 team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a thriving programme, supporting young people to succeed both academically and through football.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for one cohort of learners throughout their full BTEC journey, delivering high-quality teaching, support and guidance across the academic year. You will plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons as part of the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Foundation/Extended Diploma in Sport, helping learners achieve their full potential and progress into higher education, apprenticeships or employment.
This role includes approximately 15 hours of classroom delivery per week, alongside planning, assessment and learner support responsibilities, with a flexible working approach to support a balance between on-site delivery and preparation time.
Working in partnership with League Football Education, you will create a positive and inspiring learning environment that develops confidence, resilience and employability skills.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you will:

You will:
• Plan, prepare, deliver and assess high-quality lessons in line with Pearson BTEC Level 3 Sport Coaching standards, meeting the expectations of funding partners and external verifiers. How many hours a week
• Take responsibility for a designated cohort of learners, acting as the main point of contact and supporting their academic and personal development throughout the academic year.
• Embed English and Maths within all lessons, monitoring learner progress and attendance to support achievement in both areas.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive and professional learning environment, applying behaviour management policies effectively.
• Accurately complete and maintain all required documentation, including registers, target grades, progress tracking and learner destinations, in line with funding requirements.
• Conduct learner progress reviews as required, reporting to the Football and Education Manager and relevant funding bodies.
• Identify underperforming learners and implement targeted intervention strategies, communicating progress with key stakeholders.
• Support learners’ progression pathways by developing employability skills and linking opportunities to funder expectations.
• Organise, supervise and support work placements and educational visits, liaising with management to secure appropriate opportunities.
• Coordinate and deliver a football coaching programme, supporting participation in the EFL Community & Education Football Alliance League, including fixtures, logistics, transport and kit.
• Provide teaching cover across programmes when required to ensure continuity of delivery.
• Support recruitment activities, including open events and community engagement, to promote post-16 education programmes.
• Represent the Community Trust at local, regional and national meetings with stakeholders and partners. Contribute flexibly to wider Community Trust delivery, including evenings and weekends where required.
The successful candidate will:
• PGCE in Further Education or equivalent
• Educated to degree standard or equivalent in sport or community development related subject.
• Experience of teaching within further education (can be gained through PGCE)
• The ability to inspire and motivate students from a range of diverse and sometimes challenging backgrounds.
• Relevant and current subject knowledge of sports coaching
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• The ability to plan and organise own workload effectively.
• Understanding of safeguarding in education and its implication for the delivery of the programme
• Sound understanding of equality and diversity and its application in the teaching and learning environment.
• Ability to empathise with young people and also challenge negative behaviours.
• Be able to travel independently between different venues and locations.
