About the department

Birmingham City Football Club is seeking an experienced and driven Lead Local Scout (YDP) to play a key role within our Academy Player Recruitment Department.

This position will lead and coordinate a team of local scouts across a designated region, with responsibility for identifying and recruiting high-potential players within a 90-minute radius of the Knighthead Performance Centre.

You will play a critical role in shaping our local recruitment strategy, ensuring we consistently identify and secure the best emerging talent.

About the Role

  • To comply with the Scout’s code of conduct, ensuring compliance with the FA and EPPP rules and regulations.
  •  Have a key responsibility within a designated area allocated to by the YDP player recruitment Lead.
  • Manage and coordinate the local scouts within the designated area and lead them every week.
  • Responsible for the appraisal process of Local Scouts.
  • Core scouting duties over weekends and relevant mid-week fixtures.
  • To have a specific focus on youth leagues and the academy games programme (youth development phase and professional development phase).
  • Play a supporting role to monitor and assess Birmingham City loan players as and when required over the season.
  • Work closely with the YDP player recruitment Lead and the Local player recruitment Coordinator to ensure we are competitive and productive in the identification and recruitment of the best talent within our catchment area.
  • Undertake live and video analysis of players and produce associated reports.
  • To comply with the Scout’s code of conduct, ensuring compliance with the FA and EPPP rules and regulations.
  • To work as an integral member of the local scouting network in identifying players for the club who meet the criteria and potential to represent Birmingham City.
  • Actively recruit across the development phases in line with the Academy Player Recruitment strategy, succession planning, and target areas/positions.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships within grassroots clubs, private coaching organisations, schools, districts, and counties.
  • To watch and report on Academy and grassroots games, school games, and private coaching organisations.
  • Ensure all relevant reporting documentation is completed correctly and on time before reaching the YDP player recruitment Lead.
  • Support the Academy Player Recruitment Department when holding Talent ID programme events, festivals, and trial events.
  • To attend monthly meetings with the YDP player recruitment Lead to discuss department updates, strategy, and player requirements.
  • Prepare detailed player reports to support the successful signing of identified players and submit to relevant platforms.
  • To be aware of the Youth Development rules and requirements relating to all development phases.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade and falling within the scope of the post, as requested by the Head of Academy Recruitment, Head of Local Player Recruitment and the Academy Technical Director.
