Position Title: Learning Facilitator

Reports To: Manager, Player & Coach Development
Founded in 1901, Ontario Soccer is currently comprised of more than 500 Clubs servicing over
24,000 teams with 380,000 registered players, 70,000 coaches and managers, and 7,200 match
officials, as well as countless volunteers, parents and supporters encompassing a direct, multicultural community of over 1,000,000 Ontarians.
Ontario Soccer develops and delivers exceptional and sustainable programs and services
throughout Ontario with the mission of providing leadership and support for the advancement of
soccer in collaboration and cooperation with our member District Associations, partners and other
stakeholders. Ontario Soccer owns and operates the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan,
Ontario as well operating the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL); the province’s premier
standards-based youth development program, as well as “Team Ontario”, Ontario Soccer’s provincial
Xcel program. Ontario Soccer proudly supports Canada Soccer’s National Teams, the Canadian
Premier League and Toronto FC.
The overall objective of Ontario Soccer as a hub for Coach, Match Official and Player Development is
to be innovators and leaders in sport and to assist with the equitable development of soccer as a
healthy lifestyle choice, provide a talented pathway for participants to excel and encourage inclusive
community involvement at all levels.
The Ontario Soccer Learning Facilitator reports to the Manager, Player and Coach Development.
Ontario Soccer’s Coach Development program is responsible for the management, coordination and
delivery of education courses, in alignment with Canada Soccer’s Coach Pathway, to the
membership.
Ontario Soccer’s Learning Facilitators hold an important role in the delivery of Canada Soccer’s
Grassroots Coach Education as well as acting as a champion for the principles of Long-Term Player
Development (LTPD). As a Learning Facilitator, individuals take on the responsibility for training, and
developing of coaches who are looking to enhance their own individual experience and qualifications
through formal, entry-level certification programs.
The Learning Facilitator role is also the entry point in the Coach Educator pathway that acts as a prerequisite to becoming a Coach Developer; a role that provides opportunities to deliver formal coach education such as the Canada Soccer C Diploma or Ontario Soccer specific courses.
• Facilitate the following Canada Soccer Grassroots Coach Education (GCE’s) in Ontario:
o Active Start
o Fundamentals
o Learn to Train
o Soccer for Life
• Facilitate the Grassroots Coach Education (GCE) course during the timeframe agreed upon with
Ontario Soccer and the practical host
• Facilitate the GCE that is in accordance with Ontario Soccer’s defined expectations
• Deliver Ontario Soccer provided material and content as prescribed
• Ensure the most up-to-date availability exists at all times on Ontario Soccer’s Course
Management System
• Observe coaches during the practical component of the course and provide high quality,
meaningful feedback which empowers these coaches to become more confident and self-aware
• Create an interactive learning environment through modeling positive and engaging behaviours
throughout the delivery of all courses
• Inspire coaches by ensuring that all program commitments are met to the highest standards at
all times
• Serve as an ambassador for the game of soccer in Ontario representing both Canada Soccer and
Ontario Soccer’s best practices in all interactions throughout the soccer community; inclusive of
communications via social media
• Attend, in their entirety, all of Ontario Soccer’s Coach Development Team meetings and
continuing education sessions
• Take lead on the necessary preparation for course delivery as assigned
• Conduct on-field coaching session as per Ontario Soccer provided guidelines from Canada
Soccer on course practical delivery
• Be physically capable to execute the on-field sessions in an effective and efficient manner
• Prepare and be familiar with course content ahead of time and accurately plan based upon
participant numbers
• Proactively communicate to all candidates regarding all program commitments and ensure open
communication lines with Ontario Soccer Coach Education Staff
• Adhere to the Ontario Soccer Coach Development Code of Conduct and Learning Facilitator
Guide
• Completion of required administrative duties pertaining to the course delivery
• A minimum of 5 years coaching experience
• Strong leadership, teaching, organization and communication skills
• Good understanding of team dynamics and a team player
• Well-developed time and people management skills
• Personal commitment to continual professional development and learning
• Previous learning facilitator or comparable teaching experience is considered an asset
• In depth understanding of the Ontario Soccer Grassroots Standards, the Ontario Player Pathway
and Coach Education Resources
• A minimum certification of a Canada Soccer C License
o Preferred: Canada Soccer National B License or Canada Soccer Children’s License
• Respect in Sport Activity Leader
