POSITION PURPOSE:
The Football Communications Senior Associate plays a key role in executing Concacaf's football communications and media operations strategy. This position supports communications initiatives across the Confederation's competitions and football programs by developing communications materials, coordinating media operations, contributing to editorial planning and content production, and managing the day-to-day operations of Concacaf's online Media Hub.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead the planning and execution of media operations for Concacaf national team and club competitions, including operational planning, accreditation, venue press and photographer operations, and coordination with local organizing stakeholders.
- Support the planning and execution of comprehensive football communications strategies across Concacaf competitions and football initiatives.
- Coordinate media relations activities, including responding to media inquiries, cultivating relationships with regional and international media, and facilitating accurate and positive coverage of Concacaf football.
- Draft, edit, and translate a variety of communications materials, including media releases, newsletters, statements, briefing documents, match notes, and other football-related content.
- Monitor media coverage and communications, preparing daily media reports for senior management while identifying opportunities to enhance communications initiatives.
- Coordinate day-to-day editorial responsibilities, including content planning, editorial calendars, freelance contributors, and photography agencies, in collaboration with the editorial team.
- Administer and maintain Concacaf's online Media Hub, ensuring timely publication of competition materials and resources for accredited media.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders—including Member Associations, national teams, clubs, host venues, commercial partners, and media organizations—to ensure the successful execution of communications initiatives.
- Serve as the Media Officer for Concacaf competitions and events, acting as the primary liaison between the Confederation, participating teams, host organizations, and accredited media.
- Support match-day and tournament media operations, including media accreditation, press conferences, mixed zones, flash interviews, and other official media activities.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned in support of departmental and organizational objectives.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that s/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, media operations, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience planning and delivering media operations, preferably in a professional sports or other live event environment, including accreditation, press conferences, mixed zones, flash interviews, media logistics, and venue operations. Experience drafting media releases, reports, and other communications materials is preferred.
- Strong understanding of and passion for football (soccer); experience working within the sport is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Professional proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred. Proficiency in French and/or Dutch is considered an asset. Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a written assessment as part of the interview process.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and stakeholder groups.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while working effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information and interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, with travel expected up to approximately 50% of the time.
Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules including game nights to reflect the business needs of the company.
