Job description

Position Purpose 

 

The Fire Team will not normally be expected to be involved in the management of spectators. When deployed as a member of the Fire Team the primary is one of fire prevention and first response should an outbreak of fire occur.
This role is suitable for candidates who are or have experience of the fire industry or stewards who are willing to undergo additional fire safety training to enable them to carry out this role.

Job requirements

To act in accordance with the general recommendations of the Guide to Safety at Sports Ground (Green Guide) and the specific requirements of the Safety Certificate issued by the Local Authority under the Safety of Sports Ground Act 1975. Fire Safety Officers play a key role in the event day safety team ensuring that the stadium provides a safe and secure environment for thousands of visitors. You will become a focal point for all fire safety issues, providing preventative advice and measures in an emergency.

 

• You should be a minimum of 18 years of age, be fit, active and have the character and temperament to carry out the duties required. 
• You should possess good communication skills.
• You must be able to attend most first-team home fixtures and other major events held at the stadium.
• You should be polite, courteous, and helpful to all supporters.
• Whilst on duty you will adhere to the Club dress code and be clean and tidy.
• You are not engaged to watch the game but are expected to concentrate on your area of responsibility. 
• You should never show hostility or use obscene or offensive language to any supporters.
• You should never act in any way likely to bring discredit on the Club.

Job responsibilities

• Attend the Stadium at given dates and times as dictated by the Head of Safety.
• Undertake pre-match and post-match fire checks as instructed by the Fire Team leader. Arrive at Steward Sign as directed.
• Conduct Pre-Match Checks and specified documentation on Raven Controls as required.
• Conduct patrols within the stand and under croft’s to minimise the risk of fire breaking out and assisting to prevent the spread of fire. 
• Respond to Fire and associated incidents as directed by FFC Control, ensuring staff are supported, appropriate action is taken, and that information is passed to the Safety Management Team in FFC Control (Act – Inform – Escalate)
• Attend during match meetings with Fire Team leader for the identification of issues to be addressed, learning points and review of specific deployments. 
• Report any fire safety concerns to the fire team leader for appropriate action and escalation to FFC Control and the Safety Officer. 
• Know the location of and be able to effectively operate the firefighting equipment at the Stadium. 
• Be able to provide basic ‘First Aid’ if required. 
• Know the location of the First Aid Rooms located within the Stadium. 
• Be fully conversant with any methods or messages used to alert staff that an emergency has arisen. 
• Be capable of recognising potential fire hazards and items of interest or suspect packages, reporting such matters immediately to the Fire Team leader, a Supervisor, Chief Steward, Deputy Safety Officer, or Safety Officer. 
• Promptly comply with any instruction given by a Supervisor, Chief Steward, Deputy Safety Officer, Safety Officer, or Police Officer. 
• Comply with the relevant instructions and guidance contained in the Stewards Handbook and standing instructions for the FFC Fire Team. 
• Attend all required training. 
• To understand their general responsibilities towards the health and safety and welfare of all spectators, other stewards, staff, and themselves.

Essential and Desirable 
 
Background in Fire industry (present/previous Fire Service) and willing to undergo relevant training.
