Role Overview
The Primary Education Officer (Sports & PE) is responsible for delivering high-quality physical education, school sport, and physical activity programmes across primary schools in North East Hertfordshire.
This role focuses on inspiring young people to lead active, healthy lifestyles while developing fundamental movement skills, confidence, and teamwork. The postholder will oversee the schools programme, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery, while identifying opportunities to expand and enhance provision across partner schools.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery
- Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality PE lessons aligned with the national curriculum
- Deliver a variety of extra-curricular sports sessions, including after-school clubs and lunchtime activities
- Provide inclusive sessions that cater to a wide range of abilities and needs
- Promote physical literacy, enjoyment, and long-term participation in sport
- Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
Programme Management
- Oversee the delivery of the schools programme across multiple primary schools
- Coordinate timetables, venues, and equipment requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with teachers, PE leads, and school leadership teams
- Ensure all delivery meets safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational standards
Development & Growth
- Identify and develop opportunities to expand the programme into new schools and settings
- Enhance the quality and impact of existing provision through innovative delivery ideas
- Support the development of new initiatives such as festivals, competitions, and targeted activity programmes
- Contribute to the design of schemes of work and session resources
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Track participation, engagement, and outcomes across the programme
- Gather and respond to feedback from schools and pupils
- Produce reports to support programme evaluation and future planning
- Support schools in demonstrating the impact of their PE and Sport Premium
Partnership Working
- Act as a key point of contact for partner schools
- Build positive relationships with local organisations and stakeholders
- Represent the organisation at school events, competitions, and meetings
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience delivering sports coaching or PE within a primary school setting
- Relevant sports coaching qualification (e.g. Level 2 NGB or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of fundamental movement skills and child development
- Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
- Ability to engage and motivate children of all abilities
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection in education
Desirable
- Degree in Sports Coaching, Physical Education, or a related field
- Experience supporting PE curriculum delivery in schools
- Knowledge of the Primary PE National Curriculum
- Experience organising school sport competitions or events

Additional Requirements
