What You’ll Be Doing

We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and skilled Training Ground Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities team at Thorp Arch.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining our Category 1 Academy facilities, ensuring Academy players, coaches, staff, and visitors benefit from a safe, professional, and high-performance environment.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will deliver planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance across the Training Ground, helping ensure all buildings, facilities, equipment, and external areas are maintained to the highest possible standards.

Key Responsibilities:

General Maintenance

• Carry out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance across Academy buildings and facilities.

• Conduct routine inspections to identify defects, hazards, damage, and maintenance requirements.

• Undertake minor maintenance and repair works including:

  • Basic plumbing

  • Joinery

  • Decorating

  • Fixtures and fittings

  • General building maintenance

   

• Maintain:

  • Changing rooms

  • Offices

  • Classrooms

  • Meeting rooms

  • Gym facilities

  • Treatment rooms

  • Player and staff areas

   

• Respond promptly to maintenance requests to minimise disruption to Academy activities.

• Assist with facility preparation for training sessions, fixtures, tournaments, meetings, and events.

External Areas & Facilities

• Support the upkeep of:

  • Walkways

  • Car parks

  • Storage areas

  • External Academy grounds

   

• Monitor fencing, gates, lighting, barriers, and external infrastructure.

• Assist Grounds Staff in maintaining high presentation standards around training areas.

• Ensure all external areas remain clean, safe, and operational.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Carry out duties in accordance with Club health and safety procedures.

• Report hazards, defects, risks, and incidents promptly.

• Maintain maintenance logs, inspection records, and documentation.

• Assist with statutory inspections, testing programmes, and contractor visits.

• Ensure maintenance equipment and tools are used and stored safely.

• Manage keys, access controls, and restricted area security requirements.

• Comply fully with Academy safeguarding policies and procedures.

Contractors & Suppliers

• Liaise with approved contractors when required.

• Support contractor access and monitor works undertaken on site.

• Report defective or incomplete works.

• Assist with deliveries, stock control, and the management of maintenance materials.

Matchday & Event Support

• Prepare facilities ahead of Academy fixtures, tournaments, and events.

• Support operational requirements on matchdays.

• Respond to urgent maintenance issues during training sessions and fixtures.

• Provide occasional out-of-hours maintenance support when required.

• Support maintenance operations at Elland Road Stadium when needed.

Experience working within health and safety procedures.

Experience maintaining high standards within operational facilities.

Experience responding to reactive maintenance requests.

Desirable

Maintenance qualification or recognised trade qualification.

Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry/joinery, or decorating skills.

IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.

Experience within:

Professional sport

Football

Education

Leisure

Hospitality

High-performance environments

Experience using planned preventative maintenance systems.

First Aid qualification.

Knowledge of safeguarding procedures when working with young people.

Full UK Driving Licence.
