Strategic Adviser to the Board (Volunteer)

Job Description

Full job description

Kelsall Football Club is one of England's fastest-growing grassroots football clubs.

Since reforming in 2023, we've built a community of over 80,000 followers, generated more than 20 million views, secured national commercial partnerships and launched a behind-the-scenes documentary series following the journey of building a football club from the ground up.

Our ambition is simple.

To build a sustainable football club that our community can be proud of, both on and off the pitch.

As we continue to grow, we're looking to appoint an experienced Strategic Adviser to the Board to help guide the next chapter of our journey.

The Opportunity

No football club succeeds alone.

Every successful club has benefited from people who have already walked the path, overcome the challenges and learned the lessons that only experience can provide.

We're looking for someone who has significant experience within non-league football, whether as a Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Director, Owner or senior leader, and who is passionate about helping ambitious clubs grow.

This is not an operational role.

You won't be expected to run the football club or become involved in the day-to-day management.

Instead, you'll act as a trusted adviser to the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Board, providing independent advice, constructive challenge and strategic guidance as we continue to develop the club.

Your experience will help us make better decisions, avoid common pitfalls and build strong foundations for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide independent strategic advice to the Board.
  • Act as a trusted sounding board for the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Share experience and best practice from within football or senior leadership.
  • Provide constructive challenge to support informed decision-making.
  • Offer guidance on governance, club development and long-term planning.
  • Support the development of the club's leadership team.
  • Attend quarterly Board meetings and strategy sessions.
  • Introduce opportunities, contacts and partnerships where appropriate.
  • Help shape the long-term future of Kelsall Football Club.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has significant experience within non-league football or senior leadership.
  • Has previously served as a Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Director, Owner or equivalent senior position, or has extensive executive experience from another sector.
  • Enjoys mentoring and supporting ambitious leaders.
  • Is willing to share knowledge openly and honestly.
  • Can provide independent challenge whilst remaining supportive.
  • Believes in community football and sustainable growth.
  • Wants to leave a lasting legacy by helping develop one of England's most ambitious grassroots football clubs.

Why Join Kelsall FC?

This is a unique opportunity to help influence the future of an ambitious football club without the demands of day-to-day operations.

Your experience will directly support a leadership team committed to building a sustainable football club, developing facilities, growing the community and creating something that will benefit generations to come.

As part of the club's journey, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to our behind-the-scenes documentary series, sharing your knowledge, experiences and insights with supporters. While appearing on camera is not essential, we'd welcome candidates who are comfortable taking part in interviews and helping tell the story of the club's development.

If you've spent years building football clubs, leading organisations or navigating the challenges of growth, we'd love to hear how your experience could help shape the future of Kelsall Football Club.

Time Commitment

  • Occasional strategic meetings with the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Ad hoc support and guidance as required.
