First Team Head Coach

Job Description

Durham Women FC – competing in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 – are seeking a Head Coach to lead the team into their next chapter.

You will manage all on-field aspects of the club’s first team, providing clear leadership and support to players and staff in order to create a high-performing team and environment.

💰 Salary: Competitive, dependent upon experience

🔍 About the Role

As Head Coach, you’ll lead the first team in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2, ensuring that performance is aligned with the club’s vision and strategy.

You will also lead a team of coaching and analysis staff to drive success and a high-performing environment with a positive culture.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver a clear vision and supporting football strategy for the First Team, ensuring it is aligned with the club's vision & values.
  • Ensure the Club has a professional and competitive squad - with a desire to improve, deliver and succeed.
  • Lead all training and match day fixtures, aligning with the team’s overarching goals and objectives.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with medical and physical performance staff to manage the development of athletes who play football.
  • Implement high-performance coaching standards, game principles, game strategies and review processes.
  • Place a dedicated focus on player development, seeking both individual and team development through individual player development plans and individual analysis.
  • Work closely with wider club staff and our Professional Game Academy to create a succession plan for first-team players.
  • To maintain a good working relationship with the club’s Professional Game Academy, and support when necessary.
  • Work with the club’s media and marketing department to promote the club, ensuring communication is effective.
  • The successful applicant will be expected to attend all home and away first team fixtures.

🧠 What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • UEFA A Licence
  • A successful track record of managing and/or coaching within professional football.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring elite youth and senior players.
  • Track record of consistent high performance in a professional football environment.
  • Previous experience working at an elite level in women’s football.
  • Previous track record of developing players.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • UEFA Pro Licence
  • Experience as a head coach within the Barclays Women’s Super League or Barclays Women’s Super League 2.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to complete FA Safeguarding Qualifications, an Enhanced DBS check and any other qualifications as required by the club or WSL Football.
