Technical Director - Milton Magic FC

Job Description

Overview

The Technical Director will report to the Executive Committee and assist in delivering operational efficiency and compliance within the organization.

The Technical Director will be accountable for developing, implementing, monitoring, and adapting the competitive program. This role will work closely with the Operational Director, Management, and office staff to inspire and demonstrate a passion for continuous program improvement. As a key member of the leadership team, this role will be responsible for shaping the future of the club by implementing innovative training programs, fostering a positive coaching culture, and identifying and nurturing talented players.  A key component of this role is to ensure that the technical department is up to date with all licenses for the club and coaches. Recognized for their technical expertise, the leader will provide professional guidance in alignment with Milton Magic FC’s strategic goals.


Responsibilities:

The Technical Director is responsible for:

• Liaising with the administrative staff, players & parents' community, Peel Halton Soccer, Ontario Soccer, Canada Soccer, and Community partners 
• Technical Leadership
• Program Development (HL, Canada Soccer Skills Centre, JDP/YDP, OPDL, & League 1)
• Coach Development - staff and volunteer
• Player Development (HL, Canada Soccer Skills Centre, JDP/YDB OPDI- & League 1)
• Oversees Player, Coach and Match Official Development Programs within the organization.
• Work with the Executive Committee and Operations Manager on Budget planning
• People Management - supervise full-time and part-time coaching personnel
• Member Relations & Communication
• Reporting & Presenting
• Club Growth and Inspiration

 

Technical Leadership:

Provide continuous improvement on Club programs and Coach and Player Development initiatives based on the Club's short and long-range goals and objectives.   Act as the chief spokesperson for the club on club-level technical development matters, including external liaisons with governing bodies and leagues. Work within the community to help build the Milton Magic FC brand and awareness of our various programs.

• Monitor compliance of Club curriculum with Canada Soccer Pathway guidelines,
• Provide direction and leadership for all staff coaches and team coaches.
• Establish an ongoing education program for parents rooted in the Club philosophy, Canada Sport for Life, LTPD, and other related best practices to support their children's athletic development.
• Establish partnerships with university and professional soccer organizations to ensure the progression and availability of the highest possible opportunities for the Club's top soccer talent.


Technical Program Development:

• Continuously build and develop the Club’s existing player development program base and improve program quality, delivery and communication.
• Ensure that the established Club style of play is implemented into both grassroots and competitive programs providing a pathway for players' movement and advancement from white team to blue team.
• Establish structured program quality management initiatives, including in-season player evaluations and try-outs.
• Promote the ongoing professional development of all coaches.
• Create a culture of ongoing coach education through annual planning and hosting of age-specific LTPD Coaching Community, 
• Build partnerships with external technical service providers to create a fully integrated on-field and off-field coach and player development program.
• Support and guide the development of Club-wide curricula for all age groups, including the development of an online technical library.
• Work with our program to support player and coach development, transition youth players to adult soccer and assist with the recruitment and placement of coaches and players.


Coaching Development

• Coaching handbooks for all ages - recreational and competitive, mandatory coaching clinics for paid coaches’ quarterly review, coaches' weekly session plans, and sign off
• Performance reviews at the end of each season, which means TD will have to be assessed at practices/games to see how the coach interacts with the players
• Develop programs - recreational,/competitive/Special camps to boost engagement & offer value to the community (PA day clinics, special summer camps, etc)
• Work with Technical Leads to support all coaches in their attainment of licensing and continued development
• Follow & enforce the club policies & procedures


Budget Management:

• Provide input in the Club's overall technical budget, including Coach and Player Development,
•Work collaboratively with Operational Director, Executive Committee, and BOD to manage related costs,
• Directly manage the technical staff budget dedicated to coaching personnel in the Club's technical department and associated programs and teams
• Be responsible for the provision of data needed to accurately track the Technical Department's actual costs vs the Budget


People Management:

• Recruit, develop and directly manage Recreational Manager, Program Manager, Referee Development Manager, Competitive Leads and other coaching staff.
• Clearly define coaching staff job descriptions, expectations, and timelines.
• Perform annual performance review of paid direct reports, two other reviews per year and provide regular developmental feedback as needed.
• Create a team atmosphere for the coaching staff and motivate coaches to grow and inspire players.


Reporting

• Provide the Board with monthly technical reports
• Oversee player skills testing and the collection of other technical data needed for evaluation of technical programs.
• Oversee in-season player evaluations for all grassroots and competitive Milton Magic FC players
• Provide an annual review and budget recommendations for the following year
• Contribute as part of the Club staff management team to meeting and reporting requirements of the Club's Board of Directors and its Sub-Committees

Qualifications Required:

• Minimum National "A" Canadian Soccer Coaching License or international equivalent
• Preference given to individuals with post-secondary education; degree or diploma and/or sports-related degree or equivalent experience.
• The Director of Soccer must have or should be working to complete the Ontario Soccer Director of Soccer Diploma 
• Making Ethical Decisions Workshop and/or Online Evaluation
• Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program
• Certified Children's Licence 
• Certified Youth Licence 
• The Technical Lead is committed to ongoing development and education
• The Technical Director is not a coach of an OPDL, Competitive, Grassroots team
• Experience in directly hiring, managing, mentoring and motivating highly- qualified, elite coaching personnel.
• Experience managing technical budgets and associated cost management and reporting.
• An ability to think and plan strategically, and effectively link technical planning with broader Club goals and strategic intent.
• Strong communications skills and an ability to convey technical planning to non-technical Club stakeholders, including the parents of players.
•A team player, with the ability to operate as part of an integrated multi-functional management team.
• Strong use of technology and various software applications.
• Working knowledge of TeamSnap registration and communication system.
• Valid Driver's License.
 Must undergo a Criminal Record Check (Police Vulnerable Sector Check)
• A belief that youth coaches and youth soccer clubs play a fundamental role in the development of soccer in the country.
• A belief that youth coaches and youth soccer clubs play a fundamental role in player empowerment.
• A proven track record in the development of large youth soccer programs at grassroots level.
• Knowledge of the Canadian soccer landscape, and the challenges and opportunities it presents to Grassroots player development
• Knowledge of elite player development systems and how they differ and integrate with community sport programs.
