Founded in 1998, Glasgow City FC is the most successful football club in the history of Scottish women’s football. We are a fully professional club, competing in the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and championing women and girls on and off the pitch.
We are looking to hire a full time First Team Physical Performance Coach. This involves covering all first team coaching delivery, including but not limited to training, fixtures, and player rehabilitation. The role includes support within a multi-disciplinary team, with an opportunity for mentorship, and involvement in research in collaboration with local universities.
The successful candidate will be a Sport Science graduate (or related discipline), preferably with a MSc level qualification. Demonstrable experience in a first team football environment would be advantageous, although those from Academy football, or other sporting backgrounds, may also be considered.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Lead the on-pitch delivery of sport science content, including activation, warm ups, and other required roles within the session. Be able to communicate with technical staff for session design based on periodised planning.
o Lead sports science support on match days. This includes but is not limited to the physical preparation of the squad, nutrition, hydration, and post-match conditioning when/if required.
o Work within established framework of club workings from the sports science and medical department to implement best practice throughout the club.
o Lead programming and delivery of gym-based sessions alongside Head of Sports Science. Work closely with development players to ensure proficiency within the gym environment.
o Lead on the physical profiling of players throughout the season and feed back to Head of Sports Science and technical staff (where required).
o Work with medical staff to deliver end-stage return to play content, and ensure continuity within programming regarding injury management and rehabilitation.
o Monitor training loads and wellbeing measures (including female athlete specific measures) to report to Head of Sports Science. Ability to advise on tailoring training plans accordingly.
o Oversee the collection, collation, and distribution of GPS player training and match day data and feed back to Head of Sports Science and technical staff (where required).
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Sport Science degree, or equivalent.
- Strength and Conditioning Qualification (i.e. UKSCA, CSCS), or the ability to achieve within 6 months.
- Experience in a professional sport environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A thorough understanding of sports science disciplines and ability to translate knowledge to practical impact on the training and performance of elite footballers.
- Team player, with the ability to work independently.
- Able to work unsociable hours.
