Wigan Athletic Community Trust is excited to invite applications for a passionate and motivated Health Engagement Officer to help drive our mission of “working with Wigan Athletic towards equality in health, life chances and communities.”
In this rewarding role, you will lead a range of impactful health projects designed to help adults across the borough improve their physical activity, weight management, mental wellbeing and overall quality of life. You’ll have the opportunity to design and deliver innovative community programmes, working directly with diverse groups, including people living with long‑term health conditions or low mental wellbeing.
Key responsibilities include delivering community health initiatives, carrying out health checks and assessments, capturing monitoring and evaluation data, maintaining high delivery standards and always ensuring participant safety. The role also requires flexibility to support wider Community Trust projects

Salary: £26,000 – Full time – 37.5 hrs
Type of contract: Fixed term – August 31st 2027
You will:
· Deliver a variety of community initiatives aimed at helping adults improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
· Plan and deliver health and wellbeing activities tailored to the needs of adults across multiple targeted projects.
· Carry out health checks, movement assessments and motivational interviewing to support people’s health journeys.
· Administer and collect pre‑ and post‑programme questionnaires to measure individual progress.
· Capture, track and monitor evaluation data against key performance indicators across health projects.
· Maintain high‑quality delivery standards to ensure consistent and effective project delivery.
· Engage and support diverse community groups, including adults living with long‑term conditions or low mental wellbeing.
· Collect qualitative case studies to showcase project impact and participant outcomes.
· Ensure the safety of all participants during sessions, following health and safety procedures and safeguarding practices.
· Provide flexible support across the Community Trust, contributing to wider projects, including evening and some weekend work.
· Prepare resources, equipment and session plans of delivery.
· Record attendance, collect feedback and help evaluate and improve programmes.
· Use social media and digital tools to promote activities and share positive stories.
· Capture basic qualitative and quantitative data, including case studies.
· Represent the Trust and Wigan Athletic on local networks, promoting the power of football to impact communities.

· You will be a collaborative team member, flexible in supporting colleagues and contributing to wider Trust activities, including evening and occasional weekend delivery.
Desirable:
· Relevant higher‑level qualifications, such as Level 3 GP Referral, Personal Training, or a BSc in Health, Nutrition, Public Health, Mental Health, or a related discipline.
· Additional wellbeing and coaching credentials, including Mental Health First Aid, Level 2 Fitness Instructor or Level 1 coaching qualifications.
· Experience developing or delivering large‑scale events and health & wellbeing programmes within community settings.
