Job Description

Background:

Founded in 1901, Ontario Soccer is currently comprised of more than 500 Clubs servicing over 24,000
teams with 380,000 registered players, 70,000 coaches and managers, and 8,100 match officials, as
well as countless volunteers, parents and supporters encompassing a direct, multi-cultural community
of over 1,000,000 Ontarians.

Ontario Soccer develops and delivers exceptional and sustainable programs and services throughout
Ontario with the mission of providing leadership and support for the advancement of soccer in
collaboration and cooperation with our member District Associations and Clubs, partners and other
stakeholders. Ontario Soccer owns and operates the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre in Vaughan,
Ontario, as well operating the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL); the province’s premier
standards-based youth development program, as well as “Team Ontario”, Ontario Soccer’s Provincial
Xcel program. Ontario Soccer proudly supports Canada Soccer’s National Teams, the Canadian
Premier League, Toronto FC and the Northern Super League.

The overall objective of Ontario Soccer, as a hub for Coach, Match Official and Player Development, is
to be innovators and leaders in sport and to assist with the equitable development of soccer as a
healthy lifestyle choice, provide a talented pathway for participants to excel and encourage inclusive
community involvement at all levels.


Position Summary:

Ontario Soccer’s Provincial Xcel Program identifies young talent throughout the province with the aid
of Ontario Soccer staff, OPDL Technical Staff, District/Club Technical Directors and Club Coaches.
Via this technical staff network, players can be detected to enter into the Ontario Soccer Talented
Player Pathway either through the Talent on Location Day’s process or through identification within
the OPDL for the Provincial Screening Competition. Players can then be selected for the Provincial
Teams and showcasing for detection by Canada Soccer’s National Excel Programs.

In alignment with Canada Soccer’s High-Performance Plan, Ontario Soccer is posting positions to
support the Talent Identification process within the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL).
These part-time contract positions are essential in detecting talented players within the OPDL at the
Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 for both male and female age groups. The role
also is responsible for providing insight into the implementation of game day coaching methodology
and reporting on team playing philosophy within the OPDL. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• To serve as an OPDL Technical Staff member incorporating the Ontario Soccer’s OPDL
player identification principles and curriculum as it relates to the talented player pathway
• Attend OPDL matches on weekdays or weekends, as assigned, in full throughout the season
• To submit thorough and accurate player scout reports, and coach/team observations via
Ontario Soccer’s Performance Management Platform
• Attend all scheduled meetings and training workshops as assigned by Ontario Soccer staff
• Commit to activities on all scheduled OPDL Identification (ID) Weekends
• Adhere to the OPDL Technical Staff Code of conduct


Qualifications, experience, skills and competencies:

• A minimum of Canada Soccer’s National 'B' License or Youth License or foreign equivalent
• Coaching experience at the appropriate youth ages
• Strong teaching, leadership, organization and communication skills
• Understanding of team dynamics and being a team player
• Well-developed time and people management skills
• Personally, believes and commits to continual professional development
• Proficient computer skills
• Upon confirmation of acceptance, a valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) will be required.
The cost of obtaining the VSC will be the responsibility of the contractor.


Salary Range

This is a contract position in which the successful candidates will be provided with payment and
expense allowances as per the contract agreement. Ontario Soccer will reimburse the Contractor at
a rate of $50 per match for services rendered during the term of the Agreement.


Contract Term: April – November 2026

• Eight (8) ID Weekends per OPDL Season below (up to 12 hours of scouting per day, as
required)
• 22-28 hours per weekend (local); travel to Ottawa, Kingston and/or Windsor, London for
overnight assignments may be required resulting in longer hours
• New scout mandatory virtual orientation on, April 15, 2026, at 7:00pm
