Grassroots Program Coach (U8-U13) - Markham Soccer Academy

Job Description

BACKGROUND
The Markham SC (MSC), is a not-for-profit organization established in 1971. Today, the Club has
approximately 2,500 members from youth to senior. The MSC is proud of its competitive team’s successes
over the years and is looking to build and expand.


SCOPE
This position is responsible for providing leadership and overseeing the development that is aligned with the
Club’s Mission and Vision. The position manages many aspects of the development program, including (but
not limited to) games, training, off-field activities and program/season planning and curriculum.

The role requires a dedicated person with a passion for the game and learning.

The club is seeking a committed individual who is enthusiastic about learning and is dedicated to developing
players within the community.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical
- In alignment with Ontario Soccer (OS) Long-Term Player Development (LTPD), plan, develop and
execute age-appropriate training sessions and curriculum
- Travel with the team and attend all training sessions as well as games/festivals
- Support the development style of play for MSC competitive teams
- Acquire and maintain relevant coaching certifications to align with District and OS requirements

Administration
- Prepare player evaluations
- Oversee TeamSnap
- Communicate with parents

Coach Education & Personal Development
- Attend coach education and development sessions (when necessary/required)
- Attend club events (as required)

 

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Age-appropriate certifications: FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, Soccer for Life, C-License, including
the Mandatory Safe Sport Roster (NCCP):
o Making Ethical Decisions (MED) – workshop and online evaluation
o Respect in Sport
o Making Headway in Sport
o Rule of Two
o Emergency Action Plan
- Minimum 1-2 years of coaching experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong leadership and management skills with a focus on mentoring players
- Multitasking abilities
- Experience working with volunteers
- Valid driver’s license and accessibility to a vehicle
- A comprehensive understanding of Ontario Soccer is an asset
