Set-Piece Coach – First Team

A League of Ireland Premier Division club is seeking an experienced and innovative Set-Piece Coach to join its first-team coaching department.

This is a specialist position for a talented coach who can analyse, design and deliver effective attacking and defensive set-piece strategies. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Coach, Technical Director, analysts and wider performance team.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse upcoming opponents and identify their set-piece strengths, weaknesses and tactical tendencies.

• Develop defensive strategies to counter opposition set-piece threats.

• Coach players on positioning, marking responsibilities and decision-making when defending set pieces.

• Research successful set-piece routines from domestic, European and international football.

• Design innovative attacking routines suited to the strengths of the first-team squad.

• Create and maintain a comprehensive database of attacking and defensive set-piece routines.

• Plan and deliver engaging, high-intensity coaching sessions with an emphasis on detail and clarity.

• Work with the Head Coach to incorporate set-piece preparation into the weekly training programme.

• Lead the team’s set-piece preparation on matchdays.

• Analyse opponents in real time and recommend tactical adjustments during matches.

• Monitor the team’s set-piece performance through video, statistical data and agreed performance indicators.

• Present relevant findings and performance metrics to the Technical Director and senior football personnel.

• Work individually with players to improve heading, shooting, movement, blocking and delivery.

• Identify and develop players with specialist set-piece qualities.

• Remain informed about emerging set-piece trends across professional football.

Essential requirements

Applicants should have:

• A UEFA A Licence or recognised equivalent.

• A proven record of designing and implementing set-piece strategies within professional or high-performance football.

• Excellent technical and tactical knowledge of the game.

• An up-to-date understanding of trends across domestic, European and international football.

• Experience using video-analysis and performance-data platforms.

• Proficiency in systems such as Hudl Studio and Wyscout.

• The ability to communicate detailed tactical information clearly and effectively.

• Strong organisational, presentation and computer skills.

• The ability to establish positive working relationships within a multidisciplinary team.

• A detailed, innovative and evidence-led approach to coaching.

• The flexibility to work evenings and weekends and to travel for fixtures.
