About the Opportunity

Bishop’s Stortford FC Academy is looking for an ambitious Sports Science, Performance Analysis or Strength & Conditioning student/recent graduate who wants to gain genuine hands-on experience within a football academy environment.

This opportunity is ideal for someone currently studying or recently graduated in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Performance, Performance Analysis, Football Coaching or a closely related degree.

You’ll work alongside Academy coaches and players, helping us develop our approach to player performance, physical development, testing, conditioning and match analysis.

Rather than simply observing, we want someone who is keen to get involved, bring ideas and gradually take ownership of areas of performance support as their experience develops.

What You’ll Be Doing

The role can be shaped around your particular strengths and career interests, with opportunities across three main areas:

Sports Science & Player Performance

• Support the monitoring of player physical performance
• Assist with player fitness testing and benchmarking
• Help monitor player workload, recovery and physical development
• Record and analyse relevant player performance data
• Support coaches with evidence-based information around player development
• Help develop individual physical development plans
• Contribute ideas around recovery, preparation and performance

Strength & Conditioning

• Support the planning and delivery of football-specific S&C sessions
• Assist with Academy warm-ups, activation and movement preparation
• Help deliver speed, agility, power and conditioning work
• Support gym-based or pitch-based physical development sessions where appropriate
• Help players develop good movement and training habits
• Support individual physical development programmes
• Work alongside coaches to integrate physical development into football sessions

Performance Analysis

• Analyse Academy matches and training footage
• Review individual and team performances
• Identify key moments and performance trends
• Clip and organise match footage
• Create individual player analysis and highlight packages
• Produce pre-match and post-match analysis
• Support opposition analysis where appropriate
• Produce simple statistical and performance reports
• Present relevant findings to Academy coaches and players
• Support player reviews and individual development plans

Who We’re Looking For

This opportunity would particularly suit a current university student or recent graduate looking to develop a career within professional football, sports science or high-performance sport.

You should be:

• Currently studying or recently graduated in a relevant sports/performance subject
• Passionate about football and athlete development
• Interested in sports science, S&C and/or performance analysis
• Confident working with young athletes
• Analytical and detail-focused
• Reliable, enthusiastic and professional
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a coaching team
• Keen to learn, develop and take on increasing responsibility

Previous experience within football is beneficial but not essential.

Experience with Veo, Hudl, GPS/performance monitoring technology, testing equipment or analysis software would be advantageous, but we’re equally interested in applicants looking for their first opportunity to apply what they’ve learned at university within a real football environment.

Availability

The role can be flexible around university, employment and other commitments.

We’re particularly interested in someone who can commit to one or more regular Academy sessions each week during the academic year.

Some performance analysis work can potentially be completed remotely, while Sports Science and Strength & Conditioning opportunities will primarily take place alongside Academy training and fixtures in Bishop’s Stortford.
