The Role

Wrexham AFC is looking for an experienced Physiotherapist to deliver gold standard, innovating, evidence based injury prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to our first-team players.

This role will focus on players performance, rehabilitation, monitoring, return to play and recovery protocols.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure appropriate planning and delivery of pre-activation, player performance monitoring and rehabilitation pathways for all first team players.
  • Design and implement individualised performance monitoring criteria for players identified from KPI’s.
  • Design and implement individualised medium and long-term rehabilitation programmes tailored to the player’s injury. 
  • Implement return to play protocols and monitor players on return to training, performance and competition in collaboration with the wider MDT. 
  • Assist in pre-season data collection and creating player KPI’s from data collected. 
  • Contribute towards innovation, research studies and publications in relation to  performance and rehabilitation. 
  • Support education and mentorship within the Medical Performance and Sports Science Department and across the club to help promote a one club approach.
  • Assist on the delivery of post training and match recovery protocols.
  • Record all medical data in line with Wrexham AFC policies and procedures.
  • Provide, implement and oversee designated player performance monitoring / rehabilitation plans and pathways (daily, weekly, medium/long term). 
  • Provide weekly, monthly and specific player updates to Head of Performance, Sports Science and wider MDT as requested.  
  • Accompanying players to medical appointments as required and requested by Head of Performance and Sports Science.
  • Provide medical pitch side cover during training sessions along with Home and Away matches as requested.

Leadership and Communication:

  • Communicating effectively with the Head of Performance and Sports Science to ensure they are kept up-to-date on all medical matters relating to all first team players.  
  • Design and deliver daily, individually performance / rehab sessions both gym and grass based. 
  • Liaise closely with all medical performance and sports science staff to ensure an effective and efficient service is provided to all players. 

About you

You'll have:

  • Proven ability to design and deliver individualised return to play programmes for elite athletes. 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the full rehabilitation process from acute injury through to return to competition. 
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment in a professional sports setting, preferably football. 
  • Significant experience in the assessment, treatment and management of professional athletes, preferably football. 
  • Significant experience planning and delivering gym-based rehabilitation strategies, using clinical and pitch-based objective measures to inform rehabilitation. 
  • Knowledgeable in the assessment, treatment and diagnosis of sports injuries and current sports injury research. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of rehabilitation and injury reduction strategies. 
  • Be flexible to support evening, weekend, and match day rehab and recovery needs when required.

Experience and Qualifications required:

  • BSc / MSc in Physiotherapy. 
  • HCPC and CSP registration. 
  • Up-to-date ATMMIF qualification.
