Job Description

Role Purpose: 
To provide medical support for the London City Lionesses Academy through high-quality injury assessment and rehabilitation. This will predominantly be for the U11 to U14 Academy players. Therapy care in conjunction with the club values of professionalism, respect, integrity, discipline, and effort. 
 
Main Duties/ Responsibilities:
1. Work with the medical and performance teams in the individualised assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of injuries in the London City Lionesses Academy. 
2. Assist in the screening and profiling of players to guide rehabilitation targets and injury prevention methods. 
3. Provide pitch-side first aid during academy matches, both home and away. 
4. Develop and implement innovative ideas to enhance service provision. 
5. Season Injury Data Management and Reporting. 
6. Ensure the treatment of injuries effectively meets the Club’s commitments to players, coaches and the senior management team through clinical audit and accurate documentation in line with the STA and/or SST. 
7. Assist with medical testing in conjunction with external service providers and keep up to date club and external databases. 
8. Support the clubs multidisciplinary approach including the communication between staff, players and (where necessary) parents to optimise the well-being and development of all players. 
9. Report to the Academy coaches player readiness and player availability for training and matches. 
10. Meet all club processes and procedures on recording of all injuries and rehabilitation undertaken for all players. 
11. Ensure all injury and medical records are accurately updated on the Women’s Performance System in line with professional body and FA guidelines. 
12. Undertake personal CPD as appropriate and keep a professional log/ profile of development. 
13. Ensure appropriate clinical decision-making processes are followed to assess the fitness of a player to train or play. 
14. Provide education to players on injury prevention.

Qualifications and Training:
  • A recognised Physiotherapy or Sport Therapist Qualification.
  • Full registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), Chartered Physiotherapist (CSP) or membership to Society of Sports Therapists (SST).
  • Hold an up-to-date advanced emergency pitch side qualification e.g., ATMMiF or FA Level 4 Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMIF) or equivalent.
  • UKAD Clean Sport Advisor.
  • Appropriate medical indemnity to treat academy players. 
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential 
  • A strong interest in working in a MDT to achieve collective objectives. 
  • Good presentation and communication skills that can motivate behavioural change and facilitate the development of strong relationships with staff and players alike. 
  • Good problem solving and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work within scope of practice and within the boundaries of their limitations in experience, knowledge and/or skill. Able to ask for help when needed.
  • An interest in sport and recognition of the importance of promoting and supporting equality, safeguarding and anti-doping in sport  
    Understanding of safeguarding procedures in youth sport.
  • Prioritises their professional duty of care and clinical responsibilities over being "part of the team.
  • Willingness to engage with and support both personal and team-wide Continued Professional Development (CPD).
Desirable 
  • Experience working in an elite sporting environment, for example in a WSL/WSL2 club.
  • An understanding of female-specific aspects of injury assessment and rehabilitation.
