Academy Sports Therapist

Job Description

To support with this continued growth, the Academy are now seeking to recruit a Sports Therapist to join our Performance Team. This will be a varied role that encompasses player preparation (e.g. treatments, strappings and taping), pitch-side medical cover (training and games), rehabilitation supervision (gym and pitch), treatment administration and injury mitigation (i.e. individual and group prehab sessions). 

The purpose of this role:

  • Contribute to a proactive, safe, and welfare-driven environment, prioritising
    player safety, safeguarding, and duty of care at all times.
  • Uphold the standards and expectations of a Category 1 Academy, ensuring
    professionalism, preparedness, and medical readiness at all sessions.
  • Provide safe, consistent, and professional pitch-side medical cover for PDP
    (U18–U21) training sessions and games.
  • Ensure compliance with Premier League Youth Development Rules (Rule
    240), including maintaining an up-to-date ITMMiF (or equivalent)
    qualification, with an expectation to progress to ATMMiF.
  • Respond to, assess, and manage medical incidents appropriately during
    training and games.
  • Support the delivery of injury prevention strategies e.g., player screening,
    treatments and exercise-based intervention.
  • Deliver player/pathology specific treatment sessions to PDP players in
    accordance with own clinical judgement and in support of Physiotherapists’
    case load.
  • Assist with rehabilitation programmes (gym and pitch-based), working
    alongside Physiotherapists and medical staff to aid safe and effective return
    to-play processes.
  • Maintain accurate/timely medical documentation and report in line with
    academy protocols and safeguarding expectations.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including coaching,
    welfare, and performance staff, to support player development

Skills & experience:

  • At least 6-12 months post-qualified
    experience in a sports or football setting
  • Experience of pitch-side medical cover and
    management of acute sporting injuries
  • Excellent communication and
    interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility (role may require evening and
    weekend work)
  • Excellent manual therapy skills
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced,
    high performance environment
  • BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy (Physiotherapy will also be considered)
  • FA Intermediate Trauma and Medical
  • Management in Football (ITMMiF) minimum (with view to complete ATMMiF as part of probation period)
  • FA Safeguarding Children (or willingness to complete)
  • Evidence of ongoing, relevant CPD and keeping up-to-date with
