Job Description

Celtic Football Club is currently seeking an Academy Youth Coach. Reporting to the Head of Children’s Programme, this role will be responsible for managing and guiding players within the pre-Academy (U8-U10) and ensuring communications are maintained with parents and relevant coaches.

 

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Responsible for delivery of the pre-academy curriculum
  • Establish and maintain appropriate standards, practices and procedures for the safe and effective operation of your allocated squad and the professional conduct of all participating personnel and players
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive and up-to-date records of players within your allocated squad (including but not confined to records of attendance, development activities undertaken on particular dates and assessments of individuals’ capabilities, development needs, attitude and application)
  • Provide copies of records in such form as may be required by the Football Administration team.
  • Act as First Aid Officer at all coaching and training sessions conducted with your allocated squad and undergo, at the Club’s expense, such training as you may require in order to carry out this responsibility effectively
  • Participate, as required, in the delivery of coaching and training sessions throughout the pre-Academy age groups
  • Organise all coaching sessions and match days for your allocated squad
  • Feedback to line manager on all team selections
  • Ensure and organise appropriate staff cover for all coaching sessions and matches when unavailable
  • Liaise with the Academy Operations Manager and Football Administration team for all match day preparations and fixtures
  • Organise all parent’s evenings on technical and performance elements of player’s progression on your assigned squad
  • Report any wellbeing concerns to the Head of Children’s Programme and Club Safeguarding Manager
  • Responsible for the development of the coaching structure within the pre-Academy
  • Responsible for the production and delivery of football curriculum within the pre-Academy
  • Prepare and deliver player support materials within the pre-Academy
  • Assessment of players in conjunction with the Head of Children’s Programme
  • Oversee the assessment of players in your allocated squad
  • Provide verbal and/or written reports, as directed by you line manager, on players’ capabilities and development needs and the capabilities and development needs of groups of players as a whole (eg by age, position etc)
  • Participate as required in the creation of both group and individual coaching programmes appropriate to requirements and in the creation of the Club’s Youth Development Syllabus
  • Recommend, to the Head of Children’s Programme the recruitment and retention or otherwise of particular youth players
  • Liaise as required with the Academy’s Recruitment Manager, and other Youth Development staff with a view to ensuring that the Club’s quantitative requirements for youth players are fully satisfied
  • You may from time to time be called upon to attend youth matches in order to assess players
  • Undergo such training programmes as may be required by the Head of Youth in order to enhance your effectiveness in your role
  • You may from time to time be called upon to attend and assist, as required, at residential coaching sessions and youth tournaments
  • You may be selected to participate in club visits and to provide presentation feedback to Academy staff.
  • Convey and promote the Academy’s Purpose, Objective and Philosophy within the Club and when representing the Club on official business
  • You will not work for or on behalf of any other Football Club, Association or Agency without the consent of the Head of Youth
  • Ensure all communications with colleagues is professional, appropriate and considerate of individual needs and circumstances
  • Actively build and maintain positive working relationships with Colleagues across the Club, ensuring a collaborative approach is adopted at all times
  • Treat all colleagues with dignity and respect by ensuring that your behaviour and approach during the course of all workplace activity is inclusive of all backgrounds and abilities and welcomes diverse contributions

 

Skills and Experience required:

Essential:

  • Advanced Scottish FA Children’s Licence (ACL) qualification
  • Experience working with children and young people 
  • Previous experience in managing people
  • Excellent communication & IT skills
  • Ability to write clear, structured and accurate reports 
  • Excellent oral communication skills 
  • Strong understanding of the Scottish Football environment, particularly at a youth level 
  • Ability to work with, engage and form positive relationships with Children and Young People 
  • Demonstrable experience in effectively building and fostering strong professional relationships 

 

Additional Requirement

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and match days
  • This role is considered regulated work and therefore will require membership of the Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.  If the role incumbent is already a member of the PVG scheme, at the point of appointment, relevant updates will be required to be completed by the Club.
