What is the role?

Southampton Girls and Women's Football Club is seeking a dedicated Sports Therapy Placement Student to support the health and performance of our players. This role offers practical experience in injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation within a professional football environment.

What will you be doing?

You will work within a progressive medical team to provide treatment and assist the lead physiotherapist, U21 Sport's Therapist and sport science staff in the delivery of rehabilitation sessions and preventative medicine strategies.

Duties will include:

  • To respond to the requirements of the Lead Physiotherapist.
  • Deliver suitable and appropriate soft tissue therapy manual techniques based on scientific evidence and clinical knowledge to aid in injury prevention.
  • Provide necessary soft tissue therapy to the Women’s First Team on home and away matches, pre and post-match, providing continuity of service and excellent logistic planning and communicate any findings to the Lead Physiotherapist and Girl's Academy Sports Therapist.
  • Organise sessional pre-activation and pre-hab programme strategies.
  • Demonstrate interaction with the medical and performance team MDT to provide a holistic approach towards management of the squad. This includes liaising appropriately with coaching staff, sports science staff, and psychology staff.
  • To act as an additional match day Sports therapist for the Women’s U21 Squad, assist in providing first aid and acute injury management on match days.
  • Ensure the management of soft tissue treatments effectively meets its commitments to the players, coaches and senior management through monthly clinical audits/reports and accurate documentation on Sports Office/TrainMyAthlete.
  • Actively contribute to the department research programme, including the design, collection and evaluation of department research.
  • To assist in departmental in-service training programs.
  • Assist in the production and maintenance of emergency action plans and department procedures under the direction of the Lead Physiotherapist – Girls’ & Women’s & Head of Academy medical services.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Studying for a degree in a relevant field

  • Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic

  • Knowledge and competence with administration tasks

  • Proficient in Microsoft programmes.
