Job Description

Bristol City Football Club (BCFC) are providing a full bursary award to cover course fees for the Cardiff Metropolitan University’s MSc/MRes programme in Strength and Conditioning as part of an ongoing relationship between Cardiff Metropolitan University’s School of Sport and Health Sciences and Bristol City Football Club.

In this unique opportunity the successful candidate will support the First Team Athletic Performance Department under the supervision of the First Team Strength and Conditioning Coach and the First Team Sports Scientist. This will include assisting and/or leading gym, and pitch based physical sessions, assisting and/or leading the collection of physiological data, and the implementation of in-house research projects to support the MSc study.

 
Contact time on the MSc/MRes and with Bristol City Football Club will be approximately 20-30 hours per week but may involve weekend and unsociable hours. Subsequently, Bristol City Football Club will contribute a full fees bursary towards the student’s MSc/MRes programme.

 
The position will commence in mid-June 2025 and end in May 2026.


JOB DESCRIPTION


Main Responsibilities

Assist in the daily management of Sports Science and S&C delivery for players.
Ensure the Sports Science and S&C services are consistently operating at best-practice standards.
To assist all Sports Science and S&C testing, data collection and analysis.
Working closely with the First Team Strength & Conditioning Coach and First Team Sports Scientist in the design and implementation of all athletic development programs.
Support department staff in maintaining sports science/strength & conditioning equipment and consumables.
Conduct research into areas of contemporary sport and exercise science and determine relevant applications, utilising your university research project assignments where possible.

 
Qualifications / Requirements
The club would welcome applications from individuals who have the following qualifications, interests, or experiences:
Predicted/completed first class or upper second class (or equivalent) degree in a relevant subject area (e.g., Sport Science or Strength and Conditioning).
The applicant should be able to demonstrate an interest/understanding of sports science and/or strength and conditioning in football.
The applicant should have a good understanding of the physical demands of football and how sports science/ strength and conditioning can be used to enhance players’ performance.
High levels of IT skill particularly in the use of Excel (or relevant data analysis software), word processing and presentation software.
An understanding of how to use relevant software and equipment (e.g. GPS systems, NordBord, ForceDecks) would be desirable.
Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Available evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel independently.
Ability to integrate in a team environment.
