Ipswich Town Football Club is looking for an Academy Physiotherapist to provide medical provision across the Youth Development and Foundation Phase (U9-16) age groups. The role will require being able to work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary performance team including medical, sports science, strength and conditioning staff. This role is perfect for any physiotherapist looking to start work in professional football.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Plan and lead the implementation of medical provision, assessment, rehabilitation and injury prevention of the U9-16 age groups.
  • Support the Head of Academy Sports Medicine and Academy Physiotherapist (U18s) with PDP as requested.
  • Provide pitch-side medical cover for to the schoolboy age groups in-line with the club’s Emergency Action Plan.
  • Work with the YDP/FP Physical Performance Coaches to plan and implement methods of injury prevention.
  • Provide pitch-side care for PDP games (where necessary).
  • Coordinate part-time medical staff to ensure all YDP/FP games and training have appropriate medical cover.
  • Attend weekly MDT meetings to discuss training/games schedule, trialists, and player welfare.
  • Ensure the accurate recording of medical information on KitMan Labs in line with the EPPP and HCPC requirements.
  • Ensure medical and trauma equipment is maintained and recorded on a weekly basis.
  • Update coaches frequently on player availability.
  • Plan and implement the growth and maturation testing of all YDP/FP players.
  • Contribute to CPD within the Performance department as a whole and with part-time members of staff.

Who are you?

  • You will have a degree in Physiotherapy.
  • You will be required to regularly travel and be able to commit to evening and weekend work.
  • You will have current registration with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Health & Care Professions Council
  • Ideally, you will have an FA level 4 ITMMiF/Level 5 ATMMiF qualification.
  • You will have excellent people skills and be able to communicate effectively with players, parents and key stakeholders of a player whilst injured.
  • You will demonstrate outstanding assessment and rehabilitation skills appropriate to the elite academy football environment.
  • You will demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning skills and provide evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation; using objective criteria to ensure the player meets their outcome measures.
  • You will be able to provide match and training pitch-side cover.
  • You will be comfortable in a busy, fast paced environment.  
  • You will be organised, able to meet deadlines and keep calm under pressure.
  • You will be outgoing, enthusiastic, and passionate about your work.
