Job Description

The Club, Role and responsibilities

South Shields Football club was founded in 1888 and is over 135 years old. With 4 promotions in the last 7 seasons the first team now resides in the National League North. As a club we have very ambitious plans and the International Academy is a pivotal part within this. We aspire to achieve football league status and with this mindset we’re driven to build the infrastructure and strategy to, not only get us there, but to sustain our place once achieved.

 We are therefore looking for talented individuals to support our International Academy Recruitment department to help take responsibility for the recruitment of talented international student athletes supporting the Academy’s strategy to reach targets in growth and engagement that align with the strategy. The successful candidate(s) will assist with the recruitment process as well as potential involvement with other areas of the academy, alongside collaborating with all other staff to ensure the highest possible standards of recruitment and provision throughout the Football Club.

 The position is an internship, and hours are to be discussed and agreed between the club and successful applicant(s), with flexibility aligned with the right applicant(s). However, there will be some minimum commitments, and a degree of flexibility is required to fulfil the requirements of the role, including meeting scheduling etc. There may also be the opportunity to increase hours providing help and support in other areas of the academy footballing operation however the recruitment will take priority.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

 

  • Working within the International Academy.
  • Support and play a part in the recruitment provision within the Academy in line with best practice.
  • Ensure that the recruitment process is upheld consistently and efficiently.
  • Database building.
  • Collating and formatting various sources of data into presentable, one document formats.
  • Initial player contact using the recruitment strategy set out by the recruitment team.
  • Ensure that recruitment contact is consistent and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Wherever necessary curate insights on the recruitment process, including updates on players and processes.
  • Set up and carry out insightful and consistent reports with the staff to be presented to the relevant personnel.
  • Assist in the scheduling of initial player meetings.
  • Ensure the operations staff are supported with the appropriate resources to aid in the recruitment process.
  • Distribute updates and content to all relevant personnel efficiently when necessary.
  • Collate player names, schools, highlights, and years of study to be presented in a concise format for use by operations staff.
  • Deliver an exceptionally high standard of work in a pressurised environment with tight deadlines.

Qualifications and education requirements

Essential

·       A BSc (Hons) degree in business administration or a related subject. (Can be working towards degree and we are willing to accept applications from any and all years of undergraduate study).

·       A strong desire to work within the sports industry.

  • Have an understanding and working knowledge of industry leading platforms including, Microsoft Office (in-particular excel), google OneDrive etc.
  • Excellent level of computer competency, knowing how best to apply this knowledge.
  • Possess the drive and enthusiasm to set high standards.
  • Passionate and hard working.
  • Strong desire to develop as a practitioner and build upon existing skill sets.
  • A flexible approach to work.
  • Honest and trustworthy with a high level of confidentiality and exceptional personal integrity.
  • Ability to self-motivate and prioritise workloads.
  • Solutions orientated all the time.

 

Desirable  

  • MBA (or working towards) (or relevant degree).
  • Experience of working within a sporting environment.
  • Experience in data collection and formatting.

Recruitment checks: You will also be required to provide details of referees for the previous five years working history or referees whilst in full time education (minimum of 2 referees).
