We are seeking a forward-thinking Portfolio Manager to drive a series of high impact projects across the technology estate, ensuring projects are aligned to the business needs and requirements.

JOB FUNCTION: The Technology Portfolio Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the technology portfolio of projects and initiatives at the club. This includes ensuring that the portfolio aligns with the overall business strategy and objectives, and that the portfolio is effectively managed to deliver value to the club.

The Technology Portfolio Manager is also responsible for implementing portfolio management practices that support iterative/agile working, measuring and evaluating potential changes and benefits, prioritising resource utilisation, conducting regular reviews of portfolios, and managing the vendor portfolio, service pipeline, service catalogue, and retired services.

 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Developing and maintaining the portfolio, including the identification, prioritisation, and selection of projects and initiatives
  • Ensuring that the portfolio aligns with the overall business strategy and objectives
  • Managing the portfolio to deliver value to the organisation, including monitoring and reporting on portfolio performance
  • Managing risks and issues associated with the portfolio

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that programme/project leads and/or service owners adhere to the agreed portfolio management approach and timetable
  • Explains what information is needed and ensures they provide this information to agreed targets of timelines and accuracy
  • Produces reports as appropriate for portfolio governance, including making recommendations for changes to the portfolio
  • Engages and influences senior managers to ensure the portfolio will deliver the agreed business objectives
  • Plans, schedules, monitors and reports on portfolio-related activities. Ensures that each part of the portfolio contributes to the overall achievement of the portfolio
  • Identifies portfolio-related issues. Notifies projects/programmes/change initiatives of issues and recommends and monitors corrective action
  • Collects, summarises and reports on portfolio measures. Reports on portfolio status as appropriate
  • Authorises the structure of portfolios and aligns the portfolio with strategies, objectives and emerging opportunities
  • Recommends and implements corrective action by engaging and influencing senior management
  • Leads the on-going monitoring and review of portfolios for impact on current business activities and the strategic benefits to be realised

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

Essential:

  • A degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business Administration
  • Certifications in project management methodologies such as PRINCE2 or PMP
  • Certifications in IT governance frameworks such as COBIT or ITIL
  • Strong understanding of IT portfolio management principles and best practices
  • Experience in developing and implementing IT portfolio management processes
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address issues and risks associated with the IT portfolio
  • Knowledge of the club’s business strategy and objectives, and the ability to align the IT portfolio with these goals
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources, and in making strategic investment decisions.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience working in sports organisations
  • Experience as a line manager
