Position Summary:
The Coach Development Manager role is a full-time position reporting to the Technical Director. This role will
have responsibility and accountability for strategy, planning, implementation, and management of the various
coaching pathway(s) within the club. This role will also have an emphasis on coaching development. This is a
collaborative work environment where we all pitch in to help each other to ensure team members are set up
for success.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement a long-term coach development strategy that meets the needs of the club in
alignment with PSO and NSO requirements
• Determine a coach development budget in collaboration with the technical Director & General
Manager
• Actively research best practices and stay up to date on trends in areas such as Coach Development,
Education, etc ……
• Review and enhance existing Cambridge United coaching policies, practices and procedures
• Ensure that the certification, recognition, appreciation, and advancement of volunteers and part time
staff coaches is conducted in a collaborative environment.
• Support and development of the coaching skill set volunteers and part time staff coaches across the
organisation via coach education on field and classroom sessions across the organisation
• Work in collaboration with the HP Manager to create OPDL Coach Development Plans when required
and ensure the coach is supported appropriately and the plan is completed in the required timeframe
• Maintain the Cambridge United Coach Handbook and ensure all part time staff receive on board
training in alignment with Cambridge United coaching policies and procedures. Recommend updates
to the handbook where required
• Assist the Technical Director & HR Manager in recruiting, development, managing, and retaining all
employed Academy, OPDL & L1 coaching staff.
• Develop opportunities for players aged 14 and upwards to become young leaders and support all club
programming
• Other Duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, and analytical skills
• Well established leadership, personal and staff management skills
• Hands-on experience in creating, developing, and managing technical curriculum programs
• Able to lead a team and to work harmoniously with colleagues, work with initiative and energy.
• Understands the importance of relationship management and customer service, ability to build and
maintain strong relationships with coworkers and within the soccer community and sport sector.
• Well established and developed presentation and facilitation skills.
• A talent for innovation and creativity, combined with the ability to transition seamlessly from strategic
planning to implementation, achieving targeted performance metrics.
• Possess a high energy level and a commitment to and passion for the cause of the player/coach
education/development, including a dedication to excellence.
• Experience in problem solving and ensuring challenges are turned into positive learning opportunities.
• High levels of personal integrity and a very strong work ethic.
• Minimum 5 years of experience/understanding of CS/OS player & coach development pathways.
• Education and Professional Designations:
• A minimum Canada Soccer 'B' License or equivalent. ‘A’ License preferred.
• NCCP Coach Evaluator or equivalent. NCCP Learning Facilitator considered
• University degree or college diploma in sport/education (beneficial, but not required)
• Clear Vulnerable Sector Police check
• Valid Driver’s License (in good standing)
• Flexibility to work off-business hours such as evenings and weekends.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of common technology and computer platforms
