Job Description

WHO WE ARE 
Philadelphia was awarded the 16th Major League Soccer franchise in February, 2008 and the team was officially announced as the Philadelphia Union in May, 2009. Owned and operated by Union Sports and Entertainment, the group launched the Philadelphia Union's inaugural season in 2010 and opened what is now Subaru Park in June, 2010. Subaru Park is an 18,500 seat, world-class soccer specific stadium that sits beautifully along the Delaware River at the base of the Commodore Barry Bridge and is only 15 miles from downtown Philadelphia. 
 
The club has reached the finals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2014, 2015 and 2018, and has appeared in the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2011, 2016, 2018-2023, securing their first showing in the CONCACAF Champions League in 2021. In 2020, the Union were awarded the club’s first Supporters’ Shield after finishing with the best regular season record in MLS. The club hosted the Eastern Conference Final in 2021 and were named the Eastern Conference Champions in 2022.  The 2022 season finished at the MLS Cup against LAFC, in one of the most intense matches in League history! The Philadelphia Union have competed in North America’s biggest tournament with back-to-back Concacaf Champions Cup appearances in 2023 and 2024.

ABOUT THIS ROLE 
The Coordinator, Social Media will be responsible for assisting and maintaining digital strategy implementation across all Philadelphia Union digital platforms.  This role will serve as the primary contact for Philadelphia Union II’s social media channels and will lead the club’s planning and execution of the organization’s TikTok strategy. 
 
This position will monitor on-going trends in social media and produce social media content in a timely fashion that can be used by any of the club’s channels. This position requires someone who is deeply entrenched with internet trends with a constant focus on new and innovative ways to distribute content on our channels and grow the club’s audiences. This role will also be a crafty and creative copywriter with a passion for establishing a unique and fun tone supplementing content on our channels. 
 
The Coordinator, Social Media will regularly collaborate with all members of the Content team, including digital, creative and video as well as other departments including but not limited to Marketing, Public Relations, Sponsorship and Community Relations. The position will report to the Manager, Social Media to regularly assess and adjust the club’s on-going social strategy. The ideal candidate is a creative, clever and motived self-starter who has a strong attention to detail and thrives in the fast-paced environment of sports. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Work with the Manager, Social Media to operate all Philadelphia Union social media accounts including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube. 
  • Research, plan, execute, and evaluate all content for club’s TikTok channel. 
  • Have a demonstrated ability to quickly turn ideas into social friendly content including filming/editing a video trend or creating a witty meme in the Union's tone. 
  • Assist in social coverage of all Philadelphia Union on and off field events.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and monitor best practices, trends, etc. for each social platform. 
  • Assist with the organization’s supplementary social media channels including the team mascot, WSFS Bank Sportsplex, Philadelphia Union Foundation, etc. 
  • Work with designers, other creatives, and photographers to tailor content for social needs. 
  • Participate in team brainstorming to bring creative ideas and new ways to execute current processes. 
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice across all social channels. 
 
REQUIREMENTS 
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Premier. 
  • Demonstrated ability to run social media channels and produce engaging content for the platforms. 
  • Must have a strong interest and deep understanding of soccer.
