Port Vale Academy are looking for host families who can provide a warm and welcoming environment for our young players, aged between 16 and 18, who need to live away from home to undertake their football training and education at the club.
We are looking for families, couples or individuals who can offer a ‘home away from home’ for our players to integrate them into family life and help them grow as individuals during their time within the home. Our placements are usually 6 nights per week, with players staying in host provision from a Sunday evening to a Saturday morning.
Responsibilities:
• Support players with basic independent living and self-care skills.
• Provide a nutritious evening meal for players.
• Where possible, involve the young person in family life where possible.
• Report any welfare and safeguarding concerns to a member of Academy staff.
• Attend training put on by the Academy to help you best support our players.
• Be open to home visits and regular communication with Academy staff.
Essential requirements:
• Provide the young person with a safe environment.
• Provide the young person with their own bedroom.
• Have a bedroom with a working lock.
• Live within a reasonable travel distance to Vale Park (this can be discussed further if you are interested.)
Desirable knowledge, experience, and skills:
• Experience and knowledge of working or living with young people.
• An understanding of the emotional impact that Academy football can have on a young person.
• Capacity to accommodate more than one player.

Port Vale Academy are committed to safeguarding and ensuring the welfare and protection of children and young people. We will expect host families to share this commitment. As such, the post holder will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check and risk assessments prior to a placement commencing.
All adults who reside in the household will need to complete an Enhanced DBS as well as safeguarding training.
