Job Description

Walsall Football Club is currently seeking to appoint a Club Doctor to assist the Medical department with medical care based within the First Team and Academy.

 

Outline of the role

‘The Club Doctor’ will provide ‘The Club’ with the following services in order to carry out such duties as are required of a Club Doctor:

 

a) To be in attendance at all Walsall FC home games played at Bescot Stadium:

- All Men’s first team games (inclusive of any International fixtures taking place (e.g. England U-17/Women’s); and
- Youth team ties played in FA Youth Cup & EFL Youth Cup; 

for a period of 90 minutes before each game, throughout the match, and to be available after each game until such time that all necessary treatments have been prescribed and carried out.

The initial period of 90 minutes prior to kick off time may be modified for youth team games, by prior agreement with the Senior Therapist:

 

b) To arrange, when required, for players to have injections, MRI scans, and other forms of treatment at suitable hospitals and clinics, and to make appointments, whenever necessary, for appointments with consultants and hospital treatment, using wherever possible ‘The Clubs’ BUPA membership. If treatment is required that is not covered by the BUPA membership ‘The Club Doctor’ will inform ‘The Club’s’ Head of Medical who will in turn seek authorisation to proceed from the Club’s Chief Executive Officer.

 

c) It is agreed that ‘The Club Doctor’ at his discretion, where it is not possible for him to provide any of the services described above, may arrange alternative cover by qualified medical personnel, inclusive of an ATMMiF Qualification, at no extra cost to ‘The Club’:

 

d) To attend such training courses as are necessary to update and familiarise himself with skills and techniques necessary in order to carry out the role of a Club Doctor.

 

e) To maintain all qualifications and CPD as required from time to time and as dictated by the Sport’s Governing Bodies, EFL and Football Association.

 

f) To provide emergency match day medical cover for players and officials during Men’s first team home matches.

 

g) To assist with diagnosis and treatment of injuries.

 

h) To communicate and report on medical status to the management team.

 

i) To incorporate the latest evidence based clinical and scientific research into the highest level of care.

 

j) To develop and implement medical best practice policies and procedures, including the Emergency Action Plan(s).

 

k) To understand and comply with The FA Anti-Doping Regulations and the WADA List of Prohibited Substances & Methods.

 

l) To maintain accurate and updated medical records of all diagnoses, injuries and treatments, whilst abiding to medical policies and legislation.

 

m) To meet all of the other Job Requirements outlined in Appendix I.

 

Note - It is understood by both parties that the role requires flexibility on Saturday/Sunday afternoons, Tuesday/Wednesday evenings and public holidays for attendance at all Men’s first team home fixtures, to include all

league, cup and friendly matches.
