The Cork ETB provides a wide range of training courses for those who are entering the labour market for the first time and those who wish to upskill and/or change their career path.

The FAI-Cork ETB Player Development Programme was developed by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) in cooperation with the Cork ETB, which employs the use of full-time football training to engage unemployed people in QQI accredited education with qualified and experienced tutors and coaches.

The FAI and Cork ETB have teamed up to deliver a programme targeted at early school leavers, secondary school graduates and those in receipt of payment from the Department of Social Protection, male and female, who may also be aspiring young football players.

Overall Objective

Reporting and responsible to the Cork ETB Community Training Staff and FAI Education Manager, the main task of the coordinator and assistant coordinator will be to set up, co-ordinate, continuously develop, improve, and evaluate an education and development programme for FAI / ETB nationwide.

Training Programme - General Overview of Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the promotion and implementation of a full-time programme
  • Develop, review, evaluate and the overall management of course tutors and the programme in consultation with the learners, ETB, FAI, staff, external tutors and other Stakeholders
  • Recruit, test, assess and register participants for the programme to include liaising with local community groups, League of Ireland clubs, schoolboy clubs, local underage junior clubs, Schools at leaving cert level, early school leavers to identify future course participants
  • Delivery of the centre programme, including curriculum development, discipline, administration of certification procedures, organisation of work experience, networking with other co-ordinators and centres, and organisation of guidance and counselling support
  • Manage the procurement of supplies and services required for the day to day running of the programme.
  • Plan, monitor and oversee all education and training activities as assigned
  • Budgeting and financial management within the framework of the ETB
  • Ensure training complies with TQAS, QQI, ITEC quality assurance
  • Supervision of staff, staff development, team formation and leadership
  • Identify QQI accreditation opportunities and facilitate learners in pursuing and achieving a major QQI award

Training Programme: Specific Duties

  • Management and smooth running of the ETB programme.
  • Responsible for the welfare and overall wellbeing of the trainees, including trainees who have returned from playing abroad, having been released by their club
  • Design, deliver and evaluate modules for the programme
  • Deliver a number of modules for QQI level 5 Major Award in Sport & Recreation studies as required and internal verification (IV) of all modules
  • Provide individual support and guidance to all course participants
  • Evaluate learners progress with regular group and individual sessions
  • Develop individual learning plans (ILPs) with learners and facilitate progression to other forms of training, education or employment
  • Liaise with and report to the ETB Community Training Officer on a monthly basis and more regularly if required
  • Maintain project records in accordance with the requirements of FAI / ETB / ESF / QQI
  • Fiscal management of the program, including budget development, budget tracking, submitting monthly claims, maintaining records and adhering to ETB / FAI procurement guidelines
  • Review the programme on an annual basis and implement program improvement goals
  • Control and monitor all of the equipment and resources needed to deliver the programme effectively
  • Up to 16 hours of direct contact with learners, on the training field and in the classroom
  • Hold regular meetings with the assistant co-ordinator to develop on-going work plans / schedules to ensure smooth management of the project
  • Monitor, record and report course participants attendance to ETB on a weekly basis
  • Submit a written report to FAI and ETB management at the end of the programme
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time or as the programme evolves as requested by ETB and FAI

Other Duties

  • Implement health and safety procedures as per current legislation
  • Cover ETB assistant coordinator when required.

Training Programme: Sport Specific Duties

  • Devise an evidence-based technical and tactical development curriculum to improve individual and team performance.
  • Deliver a daily training programme with clear strategic objectives using up-to-date principles of sports coaching to create individual player profiles for promotion among professional clubs
  • Measure and improve physical performance for teams and individuals based on up-to-date sport science testing methodology and the principles of strength and conditioning.
  • Employ current approaches to track and analyse performance, including performance analysis, GPS monitoring, recording and improving nutrition, hydration, rest and recovery.
  • Measure and improve confidence, self-efficacy and agency of trainees to improve performance, resilience, goal setting and motivation with a view to a career in professional sport
  • Liaise with FAI Player Welfare and Player Liaison Officers to identify young players in Ireland and abroad, who have been released from professional academies and have disengaged from sport or society in general, but with the capacity to pursue a career in professional sport
  • Create and maintain a culture of high performance by producing data to reflect the technical, tactical, mental and physical progress of each trainee nationwide
  • Work closely with FAI Coach Education department to deliver coach education to trainees and provide access to players and facilities for UEFA Pro, A and B Licence course assessments at suitable times in the course calendar
  • Develop an advocacy programme to provide relevant work experience
  • Provide ongoing career guidance and mentorship to former trainees as they progress into further education, training, employment and professional football.

 

 

 

Job requirements

Skills Requirement

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant recognised third level academic qualification and/or recognition of prior learning
  • Track record of working with male and female learners over the age of 16, from marginalised and socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, and those with behavioural challenges.
  • Experience of delivering and of coordinating the delivery of QQI modules at Level 5 by external staff to groups of 24-32 learners.
  • Familiar with and have experience of the ETB TQAS and managing QQI accreditation
  • Competence in IT systems incl. MS Teams, MS Office, social media for course promotion
  • A knowledge of local and regional football structures and professional player pathways
  • A full driving license
  • Have an understanding of the promotion of Social Inclusion through Sport
  • A knowledge of the role of the local statutory and voluntary sectors in relation to sports development
  • Have an understanding of the National Framework of Qualifications, FAI Player Development Pathway and Coach Education Pathway, FAI Strategic Plans and Reviews
  • A proven qualification in and track record of athletic development, particularly at UEFA A coaching level.
  • Have a recognised training qualification minimum QQI Level 6 train the trainer
  • Have proven track record in administration and excellent organisational skills
  • Possess good verbal and written communications
