Oakland Roots is seeking a Business Development Director - Women’s Team to drive forward our mission to bring professional women’s soccer to Oakland. A women’s team is important to our vision of equity and opportunity for all, and the organization has resources and structure to build on. There are a large number of quality youth clubs, collegiate teams and women’s teams in the Bay Area that provide access to talent and there is a further opportunity, through our efforts, to grow participation, especially BIPOC girls in and around Oakland and further diversify the available talent pool.
This individual will drive the creation of a strategic plan for bringing a women’s team to Oakland, outlining the strategy and resources needed for launch. Once the plan is ready, this individual will prioritize the related set of projects and work closely with leaders across the organization to achieve those goals. This individual will also work with the investor group and external organizations in the creation and execution of the plan. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator and effective communicator with a passion for social impact, Oakland, soccer and building equitable and sustainable organizations.
The Business Development Director reports directly to the President and is a member of the marketing team.

Create and drive a cross-functional strategy and operational plan to launch a women’s team.
Work with the leadership team, community and investors to define short and long term success. Communicate with key stakeholders internally and externally, gather feedback, and incorporate feedback into the plan.
Define how the team fits in the overall women’s soccer landscape and the strategy and steps needed to achieve success. Monitor external changes in the women’s soccer league landscape in the US and globally and distill learnings into implications for our efforts.
Update inputs into the financial model for both start-up phase and steady state operations. Build an investment plan to be shared with the investor group.

Proven success in building and executing a strategy that (1) required cross-functional feedback, (2) involved input from multiple points of view, and (3) are financially sound.
Sees patterns and thinks holistically, short term and long term.
Loves working with people and is highly collaborative. Ability to work with people from different functions as well as internal and external stakeholders.
Great communicator and listener.
Drives work independently with an outstanding work ethic, a “get it done” attitude, and high personal accountability.
Collects and synthesizes feedback into a strategy and an execution plan.
6-10 years of work experience and/or a proven track record of creating and driving new product or service launch efforts in a fast-paced environment.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. although there are demands outside of traditional working hours.
Once it is safe to do so, travel to various worksites and meeting with partners and members of the community is required.
