Job Description

JOB TITLE: Safeguarding Advisor

DEPARTMENT: Safeguarding

LOCATION: Cobham training ground with regular travel to other sites.

CONTRACT: Permanent, 35 hours any 5 of 7 (some evening & weekend)

JOB FUNCTION: The Safeguarding Advisor will be a key part of the structure and a lead source of safeguarding support, advice and expertise embedding a culture where all staff understand their individual responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults at risk in the Club and Foundation. The Safeguarding Advisor’s main area of responsibility will be the Women and Girls Academy however, there is an expectation that they may be required to support other business areas.

 

PLAY YOUR PART (MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES):

  • Champion Safeguarding across the Club.
  • Support the Women’s first team with any welfare issues.
  • Support the Women’s first team with appropriate training and awareness raising.
  • Support the Girls Academy Player Care team with welfare issues.
  • To assist and support the Safeguarding Team in delivering best practice in safeguarding and welfare within the organisation to the highest standards.
  • To ensure the Girls Academy operates and remains compliant in accordance with the statutory agencies and football governing bodies.
  • Ensure a high-quality safeguarding and wellbeing provision throughout the Girls Academy, through successful collaboration with key Girls Academy team members.
  • Develop and successfully coordinate the mechanism for engaging with players and parents to ensure that the right level of support is given to individual players.
  • Be a main point of contact in the reporting and recording of welfare/safeguarding issues within the Girls Academy and Women’s First Team.
  • Organise and deliver the safeguarding a welfare plan for the Girls Academy players.
  • Play a leading role as a member of the Safeguarding Team to help raise the awareness, standards and understanding of safeguarding across the business.
  • To ensure all staff understand their individual responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable groups and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
  • To ensure staff engage with regular safeguarding education to ensure they develop and maintain the necessary skills and knowledge to safeguard in their role.
  • To address poor behaviour and raise standards in football, promote safeguarding and create a culture that celebrates good practice across the club.
  • To arrange and deliver briefing workshops in safeguarding topics such as anti-bullying, appropriate use of social media, code of conducts, to staff and players.

Qualifications:

  • An appropriate social care or social work qualification.

Experience:

  • Demonstrable safeguarding and support planning expertise in a previous post, in a fast paced, complex environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of direct work with those who have complex needs.
  • Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of statutory and voluntary services and experiences of liaising with them.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding for children and vulnerable/at risk adults.
  • Experience of working in culturally diverse communities.
  • Appreciation and experience of working with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with others in large, matrixed organisations.
  • Knowledge of child care legislation and guidance regulations and best practise.
  • Experienced in multi-agency working.
  • Experience of promoting good practice and continuous improvement, as well as the management of safeguarding concerns.

 

Skills and behaviours:

  • Ability to undertake the work within an anti-discriminatory and empowerment framework.
  • Ability to give accurate information and practical support to service users of all ages.
  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports and use standard IT packages.
  • The ability to reflect on own practice; undertake training advice and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work in a flexible way, including evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the service.
  • Versatile communication skills to be able to engage with children and vulnerable adults, parents, staff.
