Job Description

JOB FUNCTION: We are looking for an experienced Communications Manager to manage external media activity in relation to matches/players for Men’s and Academy teams. Assisting in delivery of Club’s strategic messages.
This role will report into the Senior Communications Manager, and work closely with the Director of Communications and Public Affairs to deliver the club’s media obligations and strategic messaging.

LOCATION: Stamford Bridge, Cobham and travel as necessary to matches and club events
CONTRACT: Full-time, permanent
Reporting into the Senior Communications Manager you will be responsible for coordinating the external media commitments for Men’s and Academy teams, ensuring compliance with all contractual media obligations for the Premier League, PL2, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Youth Cup and League Cup. 
•       You will support the Communications Department in its work with playing staff and management in delivering on external media commitments for the Men’s and Academy teams
•       You will assist on delivering Men’s team player engagement with all media across TV, print, radio and online to deliver increased positive coverage of the club and its players both in the UK and internationally
•       You will assist on the delivery of pre-match and post-match media obligations for the Men’s team at domestic and European fixtures, ensuring compliance with PL, FA, EFL and UEFA rules and broadcasting contracts
•       You will assist in managing the relationship of Men’s team squad with domestic and international media across all platforms enhancing their standing while providing appropriate access
•       You will be required to exercise sound judgement and assess the potential impact of player media activity given the media and public scrutiny on the club  
•       You will counsel and brief the Men’s team and Academy squads on sporting and wider organisational issues, ensuring they are fully prepared for all media activity
•       You will work to grow existing media relationships to ensure accurate, positive coverage of the club, wherever possible
•       You will continue to build contacts with newly emerging media leaders, opinion-formers, institutions and new media platforms
•       You will be very knowledgeable about media trends and have a well-tuned antenna for what constitutes a news story, and will be adept at identifying and implementing opportunities that allow us to portray the players and club positively  
•       You will cultivate and maintain close relationships with players’ personal PR representatives and agents to ensure players feel supported by the club, influencing personal media work where possible in the club’s favour
•       You will manage all media obligations for Academy coaches and players, drawing attention where appropriate to the achievements across all age-groups, while balancing the sensitivities around Men’s team pathways
•       You will support the commercial, sponsorship and charitable work of the club on activations involving media commitments for Men’s team players and other teams as required
•       You will help manage the PR agency appointed by the Venue Marketing team and support their work in promoting Stamford Bridge as a venue space.
•       You will be required to manage media activity at Academy matches where required
•       And provide support for, and assist with, media activity at Women’s team matches where required (where Men’s team schedule allows)
•       You will co-manage the delivery of Academy media training, working with an external training supplier and key stakeholders in the Academy.
•       You will provide support to the communications team on day-to-day media enquiries
•       You will assist with the drafting of all club correspondence with supporters and members of the public to ensure one consistent voice from the club, ensuring all responses are consistent with club messaging and resistant to media/public scrutiny
•       You will be required to manage the sometimes-competing demands of key stakeholders, so both the ability to remain calm under pressure and display excellent powers of persuasion are required. 
•       You will undertake admin to support the external communication team – e.g. media database, media notices, media interview log, lines-to-take document, press team app.

•       Excellent relationships with all external media, assisting with access to talent and CFC assets to provide positive and impactful coverage
•       Efficient in meeting all external broadcast obligations, delivering rights holder obligations effectively and on deadline
•       High-degree of diplomacy in drafting written correspondence on behalf of the club
•       Demonstrate significant (min 5yrs) experience of working in a busy sports team media environment
•       Experience in dealing with high-profile personalities and sensitive media issues
•       Demonstrate experience of designing and implementing successful media strategies that generate positive media coverage in national and online titles  
•       Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills
•       Demonstrate the ability to work to tight deadlines and display strong proof reading and researching skills
•       Display an enthusiastic approach to managing competing priorities
•       Able to deal with sensitive situations tactfully and maintain confidentially at all times
•       Must be a highly-capable writer for a variety of purposes and audiences
•       IT self-sufficiency and fluency in Excel, PowerPoint, Work and Outlook is essential
•       Proven ability to manage diverse internal and external stakeholders, with often competing priorities and objectives. 
•       Experience of success at a football club or other sports organisation
