Location: American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, Lancing
Hours per week: Full time

Roles and responsibilities

• To develop a physical development and medical programme for Men's Academy, determined by departments key principles, philosophies, and performance pillars as set out by the Club’s Head of Medical and Head of Performance.
• To formulate a strategic long-term plan for Men’s Academy performance and medical programmes, ensuring alignment with club’s overall philosophy, objectives and Technical strategy.
• To line manage a team of staff to ensure performance objectives are met and effective delivery is evidenced throughout the Men’s Academy programme.
• To work effectively with wider multidisciplinary teams to ensure the physical programme is fully integrated into a holistic player development pathway.
• To lead the longitudinal analysis and feedback of athlete physical testing and injury data for Men’s Academy.
• To oversee Men’s Academy medical staff to physically develop players undergoing rehabilitation from injury.
• To manage the sport science and medicine CPD programme for Men’s Academy.
• To ensure all sport science and medicine EPPP academy audit criteria are fulfilled (at category 1 level).
• To facilitate communication between department and loan clubs to support player development and wellbeing during loan-spells.
• To develop rapport and working relationships with loan club’s performance departments to allow “on-site” testing and continual tracking of loan player physical development.
• To collaborate with external university links, working with the Head of Medicine and Head of Performance, in driving the department’s medical and science research model.
• To provide annual reviews and feedback to the Academy Manager & Head of Medicine and Head of Performance – summaries injury occurrence, hypothesised trends and player physical progression.
• To direct and co-ordinate short- and long-term research projects within the Men’s Academy, disseminating findings to club and wider community – building the brand of BHAFC.
• To ensure that all departments are provided with an anti-discriminatory framework and take account of such issues as race, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, and age.
• To carry out work in a manner which promotes equality of opportunity for both staff, clients, and players.
• To ensure the safety and welfare of all players, especially the short and long term injured.
• To clearly communicate and educate players in the importance of health and wellbeing and communicate effectively to ensure their full understanding of injuries/procedures and any risks involved, nutrition, drug and anti-doping issues.
• To advise players on self-management, external practices and prevention issues.
• To maintain suitable levels of personal fitness appropriate for the physical nature of this role.
• To ensure high levels of professionalism and patient confidentiality at all times across the Men’s Academy and the Medical Services Department.
• To ensure external networks are developed and established in specialist areas of Sports Medicine and Science, for the benefit of Brighton & Hove Albion FC coaching and playing staff.

• To build and maintain good working relationships both internally and externally, maintaining a professional persona at all times when representing Brighton & Hove Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation.
• To keep confidential any information gained regarding the club, foundation and its personnel.
• To maintain a flexible approach to work at all times.
• To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time
